What do you do in times like these, when there are no new toys coming in the next couple of months? Do you continue to catch up on past lines, buy advance versions of upcoming toys, or just stay away from them, until the shelves fill up again?
The worst thing you can possibly do is find another line to be interested in. For myself, I'm about to get hammered. $150 - G1 Green Ratchet (BBTS) $70 - e-Hobby Black Ironhide (BBTS) Also, I've been on this weird Dreamwave Litho / Poster kick. In times of real down periods, I just venture off to my other interests. (gaming & electronics)
I turn overseas. Lately I've been part of the cult-like following for advanced Animated figures. I've also got Revoltechs and Henkei Transformers out of Japan that I'll want as well as a few imports I've been putting off.
I've never really been into a particular line, so I've never had that problem. If I have a lull in buying I typically throw what I have into a fun account in the bank, then blow it on something, like Botcon next month.
I Take Paxil in the off season to get me through Seriously though, I tend to fill in some of the voids I missed in earlier lines and spend too much on buying reissues. (reissues is a fairly new habit/addiction...)
I am interested in different kinds of toys, so I always have something apart from Transformers to look for. But even with TFs, there are all kinds of vintage and other previously released figures that I don't have yet but want. . .this is necessary to keep my interest in Transformers generally, since I have no interest in the movie figures, and almost no interest in the animated ones. C'mon Classics 2.0!!
Since I kinda quit Star Wars and die-cast (for the most part) and I don't buy much in the way of newer Transformers... I still find myself filling in holes. But last year I started picking up Revoltech Tranformers. So thats a newer line I'm into. I will buy some Animated figures, because I watch the series. But I won't resort to eBay just to get them early. Other than that, I'm gonna wait on the Encore line for some more cool figures that I don't have!
I'm currently playing catch-up (pretty much done, now, though) and getting Animated stuff early. Usually I just wait it out and play catch up, but I'm doing pretty well now so I can stand to splurge a little.
While I'm waiting for Animated and Classic 2.0, I have been catching up on my micromaster collection.
Doing a little catching up, and trying to get among other things a Headmaster Hardhead in the meantime, and probably finally grab a Big Convoy soon too. . I'm getting off lucky with TFA though since I think I only want Starscream from Wave 1, and maybe BB. It is pretty dead right now though, makes one fidgety for sure.
Buy Star Wars, GIJoe, Marvel, DC, Buffy, Trek, NECA, LEGO, Sportspicks... I'm pretty much done with TFs at retail until Universe, but I've got plenty of other stuff to keep me preoccupied.
The money I'm saving from not being super interested in Animated has helped me buy the 2007 Botcon set. So thats what I'm doing until Classicverse 2.0 hits shelves (which is still WAY too far away). I never saw the point in paying way more than a toy is worth just to get it early. I mean more power to those of you who do since really a toy is worth what you want it to be, but it's never interested me. I'm not really super interested in any other toyline on the shelves right now. Maybe get a Venom from a Spider-Man line here or there but that's VERY few and far between.
hey grimlock13, congrats on getting the '07 set! as for me, im catching up on figs that i wasnt able to buy before due to lack of funds, like mp-04 and 06, as well as brave max. and since i was able to preorder most, if not all of tf animated from hts, i'll spend the mext months paying off my ccard while waiting for encore omega supreme and minibots.
what do you mean no new ones? the premium series is coming out soon, and i just got 3 new scout classes the other day (Crosshairs, Stormcharger, and...i 4get the ither guy's name,) but new ones come out all the time. there is no break between now and animated, i think
