I've been looking into picking up Optimus Prime and Megatron, but I've had some reservations about it. Do the Encores hold-up well to the originals? Are there any significant mold differences? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Depends on your definition of significant, but I'd say no.

I know some folks prefer OG toys, but for the mintiness of it all, reissues work great for me.

I think its great. It lets me buy new Primes and Megatrons I never had as a kid. Its nice that this stuff stays on the shelf.

I think they're great also, a bit pricey but it's brand new and cheaper than the originals but the same toy basically, sometimes even improved, can't really see a bad thing unless you're holding onto the originals as investments.

Yes, they may be cheaper than getting originals MISB on eBay, but $100 for what was originally $15 (Starscream) to $40 (Optimus Prime)?

I'd rather they just put them on the shelf alongside the current releases and at similar prices, not these scalper prices. I didn't even get any TRU reissues until they were on clearance. (Yea, selling figures for double what they were originally, when improved manufacturing methods have doubtless lowered the cost since then...)

Remember, you could get reissues of G1 minibots on keychains for $2 at Wal-Mart last year. And they seem to have sold out.

The Japanese toys, whether Encore, TFC, or otherwise, have the good springs for Roller's trailer launcher and missile lauchers, and Megatron actually fires little plastic bullets in gun mode and in his weapons platform. I got rid of my neutered original US stuff.

Considering its price plus the neat packaging. Its a steal! That is if you can find an Encore Optimus. Its pretty much sold out. I got mine for under $40 in Japan.
Goodluck on your decision! You can't go wrong with Encore.

Maybe that means you shouldn't buy any more of them?
