    Hey Community,
I was just wondering what people define as a Masterpiece Figure these days. For instance, some people would call Master Mind Creations Feral Cons Masterpiece figures, while some others would not, so what does the community say :)

Wrong forum. Maybe ask a mod to move it to the Toy Forum?

Anyways, these are some features that define a Masterpiece figure to me:
-GEEWUN! It HAS to be as G1 as possible.
-Colors should be close to both animation and toys.
-Molding taking cues from the G1 toys and animation models (but mostly the animation models).
-Using outdated designs and vehicles (Mini-Cassette player, JNR Class C62 Steam Locomotive, Volkswagen Beetle, etc.)

A Masterpiece has to follow this list in order for me to buy it.

It's made by Takara (or to a lesser extent, Hasbro) and says MASTERPIECE on the package. Pretty simple, really.

Overpriced, poor quality, overhyped and outdated designs, maybe?

Transformers Masterpiece is a collector-focused line that uses advanced engineering of the modern era to revisit established characters with the intent to provide a blend of "show-accuracy" and original toy details to homage the heritage of the Transformers brand history.

If you think £28 is overpriced for a definitive version of the original character then I'm not sure what to say to you.

That's the answer right there. 3rd post in and this thread should be dead.

    ^ Agreed.

However, that being said, I still keep a couple of Generations (Warpath, Cliffjumper) and Alternators (Stepper/Ricochet, and Meister/Jazz) as stand-ins.

A Masterpiece, to me, means robot and alt are as G1 as it gets and a highly articulated versions of the toy/cartoon that all scale together. It doesn't matter who makes it. For example Cubex Huffer is MP Huffer to me whereas XTransbots offering isn't as it is more stylised....even though it has 'Masterpiece' on the box.

I also agree some classics are perfect stand ins. Warpath is the standout example.

Following the current pattern, a to in scale with a 10 inch Optimus Prime figure looking as close to the characters appearance in the cartoon with a very accurate alt mode. Oh and it can't be Megatron.

I define a Masterpiece, from what we've had so far, as:

-A near 100% cartoon accurate representation of a G1 character (some liberties must be taken, obviously)
-Exact same alt mode as G1 cartoon likeness (VW Bug, Lancia Stratos)
-In relatively close G1 cartoon scale (approximate, screw scale charts)

I wouldn't mind a Masterpiece following the Michael Bay movie designs if not for the fact that the Michael Bay designs are inferior to the G1 designs.

That's a very final statement to make. Alt mode is very G1, robot mode the same. Colour pallette is pretty much identical to the source. Scale wise (individually) they are very very close. To alot of ppl checking all of those means they are worthy of a place.

I'm curious to the reasons you not think they are worthy of the MP shelf?

I'd say 2 should include 'realistic' alt mode (at least for those with real-world counterparts ;) ). Otherwise, I agree completely.

Because the creators have flat out said that wasn't their intent. It's sig'd.

Scale wise only Razorclaw is close.

That's not even getting into styling. They're based on a Simon Furman design, not G1. MMC's stuff is all comics based.

Where do you think Furman gets his inspiration from?

Do you deny the alt mode and robots look G1?

At the end of the day if ppl have a set checklist and a figure hits them all then what is the problem? Besides the Corporate nut huggers I can't see one.
