What aspects of the old Movieverse should be carried over into the new one?

Since a new era of Transformers movies is upon us, I was wondering what you would like to see be carried over from the old “Bayverse.”

Personally I hope they keep some of the more interesting and unorthodox design choices. I really liked the G1 homages for the characters in Bumblebee, but hopefully they’ll branch off from there and do something a little more different. Designs like Scavenger, Devcon, and Overload come to mind. Also, Mixmaster using his mixing chamber as shields is genius. Wish we’d see more cool stuff like that.

I'd also like to see more unusual designs - maybe the four-armed, four-legged Overload design can get some screentime.

As for my own ideas, if we're going to have a Transformers series where the Autobots and Decepticons have been fighting for a while, then I want an Optimus who takes after Bayverse Optimus - somebody who's done with the Con's crap, and doesn't care how brutally he kills them, so long as they're no longer a threat. As a corollary, we need to delve into just how and why he got this way, why he's not more like Captain America or Superman - because he's been doing this for God knows how long, and he's not going to let any kind of idealistic squeamishness or concern about his self-image get in the way of protecting innocent life.

For the Decepticons, I want them to actually be villains, with the kind of bodycounts and atrocities behind them that the IDW Cons had, minus the later attempts to bring in shades of gray by saying "everybody did bad stuff during the war." I want them to be the kind of villains who started Armageddon on their world and kept going, exporting it to countless alien species.

In short, I don't want squishy, pitiable, "oh, poor pitiful me" villains, and I don't want heroes who put their public image and their own self-righteousness, I want the immovable object and the unstoppable force.

The willingness to create new characters and use lesser-used ones
    The Autobots being outlaws
Transformers being made of Transformium/cube transformations for some class of Transformers
Stupid Drones, except this time with the whips!
    Have characters die brutal deaths
    Ridiculous one-liners
Devastator's wrecking balls...except this time have him wield them like a mace for some Autobot-wrecking action!
    Dragonesque Dinobots
The use of practical sets for Cybertronian ships and other alien environments.

I'd maybe bring back the holo-avatars for the Autobots, and probably put some of the unused robot concepts/designs to use...aaaaand that'd pretty much be it.

Significant reformatting (superficial or alt mode) like 07 Soundwave to DOTM Soundwave or 07 Barricade to TLK Barricade.

Unorthodox weapons on traditional characters like Prime's Energon swords or Ironhide's cannons. Gave variety in fighting style.

Combiners/Powerlinks looking like a functional, semi-cohesive mesh of parts.

Autobots having an Earth government team and base w/clearance (similar to TFP)

Different teams in different arrival points/locations.

Actually, going by my previous idea of incorporating a few elements of "The Key To Vector Sigma", "Starscream's Brigade" and "Masquerade" into a full-on TF movie set in the present day of the continuity of "Bumblebee", I'd probably have the latter's more G1ish-looking Autobots rally for the climax using their original Bayverse alts as disguises. (This came to me after seeing some of Lazslo's re-workings.) Admttedly, though, this'd be a one-time nod, sort of like Cap wearing his classic comic-book outfit during the USO sequence of "The First Avenger".

Yeah I like the fact that Ratchet and Ironhide could initially look vastly different and then would "choose" to look like twins/brothers ie. mold mates. That could give them a lot of character depth in the right situation.

Would also help set up an in-universe explanation for Sunstreaker and Sideswipe, Cliffjumper and Bumblebee, Hoist and Trailbreaker, Datsuns etc.

The monstrous insectoid look of the Decepticons. Not all Decepticons have to look like jagged messy shards, but Bonecrusher, Rampage, Devcon etc. would totally fit as a sub-group of savage, beastly low ranking Decepticons. That way they can be differentiated from the higher-up elites like Starscream and Soundwave who look more like evil businessmen or military generals.

Absolutely nothing whatsoever. It's past time to move on and bring about a rebirth. Going back to the bayverse, as well as shoving G1 into everything would be cinematic stagnation in the long run, yet here things are. . .It could have all been avoided. . .

Original characters that didn't exist before (or only existed as obscure unknowns). Shatter, Dropkick, Sqweeks, Daytrader, Brains, etc. I don't want to see a Transformers movie series that only features the "greatest hit" characters of Transformers. I like it when they create fresh new faces to put alongside the old.

    A lot of non-humanoid designs.

The nanotech approach to their physiology.

On-screen AOE-style reformatting into new vehicles.

To add on to what you said, I’d love to see them also tap into some less recognized villains like The Fallen. Imagine a DJD movie.

Also reinventing old G1 characters. I miss how Ironhide didn't look like G1 Ironhide but still had enough screentime and character to not feel like a cheap nameslap. That uniqueness among the many series of this 35 year franchise is something I'd hate to see go with Hasbro's new approach at unifying designs.

We should definitely embrace some crazy design aesthetics instead of the standard two arms and two legs body type for all robots.
