Love him in MTMTE, hate him everywhere else. He didn't do enough in Animated to warrant an opinion.

I used to dislike Hot Rod as I thought he was in inferior replacement for Optimus Prime. Thanks to IDW´s comics, however, I have started to appreciate him as an interesting character in his own right. I like his impulsiveness, his charming ego and taste for danger...

My favorite character from G1 - Not Rodimus Prime, just Hot Rod.

My fav. from that movie. The car version only. I thought the camper was dumb dumb dumb. I liked his deco more than the character though...

I really only care about G1 and I've liked that iteration of Hot Rod / Rodimus since I first saw them in a darkened theater opening weekend of '86 when I was seven years old. I was devastated when Prime died and missed him like crazy. Dark Awakening and The Return of Optimus Prime were high points of season 3 for me, but I loved the look and design of Hot Rod / Rodimus, it was very edgy and modern compared to the early Diaclone TFs, and I loved his reckless approach to leadership (see Fight or Flee). I also loved that Ultra Magnus as his giant rock steady advisor and sometimes mentor.

I personally love the Rodimus character. No other character in Transformers history would have had a harder job to win the audience over than Rodimus Prime did in 1986. He was always going to be somewhat doomed from the beginning following in Optimus Prime's footsteps but when I look back, the season 3 era was a magical time in my life.

Right on point. I don't know if I can say that I love season 3 more than 1 and 2, but I love it just as much. I loved TFs when I walked into The Movie in August of '86, but I walked out completely obsessed. I was more into the toys and show than ever thanks to that cinematic masterpiece. AKOM's shoddy animation aside, I loved the darker, more epic space opera angle of s3. A lot of my buddies started to lose interest in TFs around this time because they preferred the real world alts of the early Diaclone TFs, but I loved futuristic shit so the movie/post movie world was right up my alley.

I'm an MP fanatic, having MP-08 through 19 with 20, 21, and 22 preordered. I love them all, but I might be most drawn to my TT MP-09 v1. Such a beautiful design and deco and this figure looks like he walked right off the screen and onto my shelf. I don't think we'll ever get a more perfect representation of what I consider to be an iconic character.

I hated him as a kid. All the other kids in school did, too. I remember the rumblings when the movie came out, they were going to replace Optimus Prime with some new guy. We called him Rottenmous Prime. Season 3 didn't change my opinion of him.

Until about 2004, when I realized I liked his design and I became a fan. Watching those season episodes years later made me like him. (I still think he can be quite a bonehead in the movie.)

This is going to sound like a terribly camp innuendo but I'm a Hot Rod lover. His design was brilliant and really stood out from the season 1/2 cast. I'm a huge season 3/4 fan so I found Rodimus primes inner struggles with leadership and responsibility just on the right side of good brooding and a million miles away from whining emo nightscream territory.

Its a shame we only got early parts of the 1986 movie to see the feisty immature Hot Rod side but IDW is making up for lost time in mtmte. we have also had aspects of his early character filtered through into characters like Cheetor (beast wars) Hot Shot (Armada) Bumblebee (Animated) and Smokescreen (Prime)

I liked him as Hot Rod, didn't like him as Rodimus.

    Edit
    What Ironhide said.
Rodimus' TFA design was one of my fav TFA designs, though. Even if he did arrive just to get blasted with rust.

Love him in the IDW-verse. For G1, I only liked him in TF:TM, he completely sucked in Season 3.

By far, Hot Rod/Rodimus is my favorite Transformers character. As a kid, I thought he was cool because of the flames on the hood, the exhaust pipes on his arms, and the huge spoiler he rocked. Also, I appreciated him being younger and then thrusted into the role of a "Prime". Reading the MTMTE comic, I like his arrogant and adventurous nature. Overall, I guess I kinda relate to the character, if that makes any sense. Ha.

I like him fine. I also wish we'd had more time with Hot Rod before he became a Prime. Maybe leave him as Hot Rod through the end of Season 3 and delay Optimus' return until his Powermaster toy came out (though that is getting into "what ifs"). I wish someone would play up the idea of Rodimus being chosen BY the Matrix and not FOR it like Optimus and Magnus apparently were. Energon Rodimus had touches of the messiah-like character but they could've done more.

He's kind of awesome. The impulsiveness, insecurity and all-around dickish behavior make him one of the strongest personalities we've ever had in an Autobot leader. He's not a great hero, but you don't really need to be a great hero to be entertaining.

He's Wally West if Wally West never had his defining moments in "The Return of Barry Allen" or "Terminal Velocity."

    He was winey.

He never wanted to be Leader.

Ultra Magnus should have been Optimus successor...

    But I loved Hot Rod.

If the character changed, I'd be down for some Roddyness...

No winy tantrums. Were at war here people!
