Kancolle was made with the purpose of painting what happened to Imperial Japan as an unjustified tragedy they were undeserving of, which couldn’t be further from the truth considering Imperial Japan was responsible for the murder of over 10 million innocent civilians. Tanya the Evil does not paint Germany in a positive light. Tanya is horrible and the show owns it. Kancolle makes Japan out to be a victim by portraying it’s characters as cute and innocent as to portray them as victims of an “imperialistic US aliens”. The creator of the series once stated that Kancolle was supposed to be about “the tragedy of the Japanese Navy” because thats how they view it. It’s revisionistic with a country responsible for it’s own genocidal campaign. If it was a one off, I wouldn’t say anything, but the viewpoint of Japan being a victim in WWII is unfortunetly shared by a lot of people and had been long before this show, which is why I take a problem with it. That and some if it’s creators commemts.
