Saw the first episode of the new Trigun, the original series's first episode was better. It wasn't as funny or had as much action. Maybe it will get better later.

What annoys me is when this was first announced, they made it sound like they were going to stick closer to the manga. From what I've been told, it's not even remotely close and that the original anime was closer.

Vash's own (forced) sense of humour has always been shit.

Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement had a very funny 1st episode. Definitely a different type of Isekai.

So I was searching for essays talking on anime depiction of depression, and I get: Post Anime Depression? As in, people get depression over... cartoons?
    post anime depression.jpg

Okay I get someone feeling feeling a bit upset when their favorite show ends, but to get depression over it and naming a syndrome after it? Depression isn't a joke, I get it. But people get depressed by heavy psychological traumas making them feel low over themselves. But if a TV show ending can cause it this easily instead of just moving on with your normal life or starting another show, then that's a serious problem.

Meh, they're just talking about the "blahs" you get whenever your "favourite" thing ends. People do the same thing over books or movies or TV shows or videogames. Or when sports seasons end.

When you invest a lot of time into something, and then it's over, it can leave you feeling in a bit of a slump, as you're forced to re-evaluate your habits.

Might be extra notable with anime/manga, as the medium tends towards a high degree of melodrama. Combine the above with a big emotional blowout finale and that will almost certainly leave you in a mood.

As for what you were initially searching for? Tough luck finding realistic depictions of it. One of the major notable exceptions would be both Tomoya and his father in Clannad/After Story. The Japanese management style of handling social/mental health is very much "out of sight, out of mind". They pretend they're a happy, utopian society by just not talking about it. So you'll very rarely find it depicted realistically. Full-on grief after significant deaths? Sure. Up until the big motivational power surge that snaps the character back on their feet again. Life-defining emotional void and the required counseling for such? Not so much. That's part of why A Silent Voice was so controversial, in that it actually shines a light on their rather poor handling of social issues.

I started Campfire Cooking in Another World and it seems like a fun show. I realized I am watching way to much this season. I might have to put some stuff on hold for now.

nah. Gotta watch the first 3 episodes of everything that catches your interest and then start weeding stuff out into "Watch Weekly" "Binge Later" "Save for a Rainy Day when I'm bored and suddenly find this because I forgot that I kinda wanted to watch it"

So far I've got Giant Beasts of Ars, Ice Guy, Tomo-Chan, Adventurers Hating humans who save the world, Last Summoner, Kubo-San, Slow Life After being fired, Angel Spoils me Rotten, Ayakashi Triangle (To Love-Ru with Ninjas!?), Malevolent Spirits Story, Master of Blade, Spy Classroom, Handyman Saitou, Eminence of Shadow, Urusei Yatsura. Saving Trigun & NieR for Binging later as I just have a passing interest in those two. Strongest Onmyouji, Buddy Daddies, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, and some others are all undecided for me.

I'm diving into the classics from the 80s Real Robot era, starting with "Blue Comet Layzner" while building the Bandai Real Robot Revolution model of the New Layzner.

    I'm enjoying it.

Since there wasn't an official US release I'm streaming a pretty decent video transfer with a competent fansub.
Every now and then some lines will have a bracketed editor's note for explaining alliteration of words and dialect, but I swear they were just trolling it for this line out of episode 23.

    20230111_213222.jpg

I know she means the upcoming battle, but I see what they did there.

They're not wrong because I know all about the original TV ending, and how it got cut short when the sponsorship went up in smoke financially and literally.

Fortunately the site I'm watching it on has the OVA's too.

Looks like this time it's Retsuko who gets to help instead of others helping her. Hope Haida recovers.
