So I have been in this since I was a kid in 85 . Now that I have my own home I dedicated a room to my collection but I have always kept boxes . Only boxes that don’t get opened are sealed G1 boxes and anything reguarding G1 . All my modern stuff, 3rd party, MP , etc are all in totes in another spare room . Just wanted to get other peoples opinion on if you think it’s necessary to keep these boxes . I don’t plan on ever selling my collection at least while I’m alive . But I think it’s just nice to keep them ? I duno maybe I just answered my own question!?! . IMG_2817.jpeg IMG_2819.jpeg IMG_2820.jpeg IMG_2821.jpeg

For me, no, I do not keep them. No room and no value for me. If I was going to keep any, it would probably be my Fans Hobby boxes.

Chuck them shits. Off to the recycler they go.

There's some packaging I wish I could keep because it's quite nice, but I'd rather make room for figures and accessories over empty boxes.

(Original G1, I get keeping, but I myself have very little of that.)

I only keep them if I get a vintage figure with them, on the off chance I resell it.

Do what brings you joy! But personally, all new boxes I acquire get recycled.

I usually only keep select boxes

Commander and titan class, SDCC/pulsecon exclusives, and ss leaders....

Everything else is fuel for a bonfire...

I only keep boxes for stuff like G1, G1 Reissues or other exclusives. 99% of the boxes I get all go into the recycling (mostly mainline CHUG stuff), but I do have a few totes that are just filled with boxes.

It used to be that you could get more on a resale of you had the original packaging, but that seems to have ended quite some time ago. Even when i do sell boxed items, most people tell me to toss it since that's what they're going to do with it anyway and it saves on shipping, so in my experience it doesn't seem to matter as much anymore.

I think it's ridiculous and a waste of space.

    And yet

I still do it. For everything.

    Why

For me it would be exclusives, depending on what they do for the packaging, is a maybe. Everything else gets tossed as it can easily eat up a lot of space.

I keep all 3P and Masterpiece boxes, it’s the safest way to store them. I also keep boxes for certain Import and Special Edition figures, or sets like Unite Warriors, T.F.C.C., and HasLab. And SS Blackout, I won’t risk his rotors in a plastic tub as one already has a stress mark.

I keep all of my boxes, but I do plan to sell the entire collection before I die, and I've always believed the original box adds some value. And I also use the boxes to store the figures that aren't out on display.

If you're planning to let your inheritors dispose of your collection, I might actually suggest tossing the boxes now. It might make their task easier.

Like others, I keep 3P and Masterpiece boxes. I really love 3P boxes. Otherwise if a box really adds to a figure (like Universal Studios Megatron), I'll keep it but generally outside of one or two boxes to hold instructions and a card back here or there, they're gone almost immediately.

90% of my boxes go straight in the bin. I really have no use for them, along with the fact I really don't have much space anyway, so I don't bother keeping them. That said, if it's a nice solid box, good and sturdy with enough room to store a bunch of accessories, it's probably gonna get repurposed. The other main reason I'll keep a box is if it has cool art, or if the packaging itself is unique/interesting.

I love Studio Series and I have kept almost every single box to date. I have the box for my record player and I keep it in case I ever need to take it somewhere; it’s empty 99.9% of the time so I store my SS boxes in there. I also have another large box I keep them in. It’s not creating a huge space problem, especially since live action film SS has slowed down so much the last three years.

I kept the boxes for Legacy Dreadwing and Skyquake because I really love the Legacy Evolution poster, and together their sides form the poster. I’ve also kept the Commander boxes for Legacy as well as SS86 Magnus because they’re thin and not too huge.

Titan Tidal Wave has such a cool box I’ve still got it right now. If I have to I will probably be fine breaking it down or at worst cutting out the art.

As for Legacy/mainline boxes, I’ve only kept a select few that have value to me like the new Animated toys and Tarn, and also the Strongarm box since it’s pretty. But if I like the art of a box, especially from Legacy Evo onward, I’ll break down the box so it’s nice and flat and easy to keep.

Leaves more room in the dumpster for the toys, lol. At least that's the way my wife has it planned out!

On a more serious note, I only keep boxes for premium stuff and G.I.Joes these days. All other regular retail boxes get tossed.

If you have the space I don't see why you wouldn't unless you plan to display all your collectibles.

I display some but keep others in their boxes.

If by some chance I die unexpectedly and my wife outlives me, she knows there's enough value there to get it sold somehow. She'll probably end up with pennies on the dollar, selling to a reseller, but at least the rare and desirable stuff I have won't go to the landfill.

In all honesty, she knows of a couple of local toy shops she can call to give her a lump sum offer on all of it. I assume that's what she'll actually do. But, yeah...pennies on the dollar is likely what she'll get since she doesn't know or care what any of this stuff is worth.

Uncle Buck - Why Do You Ask.......gif

I used to do that when I first got back into collecting, but hooo boy that stuff adds up right quick and just takes up tons of space. Now a days I just hang on to packaging I like. Stuff like Takara Legends because they have some really nice artwork and as a bonus they double as great free storage for all your figures no matter the size. That can also be said for voyager boxes and up.
