I've got the bug again. Finally set aside some time to work another figure. It didnt go quite as planned, BUT i'm still happy with the final result. WFC: Siege Strongarm and her battlemaster partner Arbitrator! I started this off thinking I was making a Rook for WFC.....but as I continued...I said man this feels more like it should be Strongarm. As so now it is. Strongarm is combination of parts from Hound and Selects Hot Shot. A blue dye bath was meant to deepen the blue more. It did, but I let the water get to hot and some of the parts warped pretty bad. I thought it was just the chest, but later found out it affected the leg panels as well. Another Hot shot donor allowed me to finish the project (with a shorter dye bath!), but it wasn't until assembly did I realize the leg panels were affected as well. Perhaps later down the road I will try and correct the issue with the leftover parts from the donor. Arbitrator is a pretty straight forward dye job on a Blowpipe figure. Didn't get too carried away with that one.
It's amazing what a few small changes can do for a figure to make it feel like a totally different character. Love it.
Looks pretty cool. I'm somehow a fan of that headsculpt. Maybe a bit of white would suit the character. What about alt mode? Do the warped parts hinder transformation?
As I just watched the first review for Studio Series SS-57 Offroad Bumblebee (Willy's Jeep mode) I thought that you could use the leftover Hound head of this custom to make a movie/classics Hound out of that figure.
I was expecting a more faithful head design similar to the RID version but aside from that, this is nice.
I used Rit Synthetic Dye. You add it to a pot of hot water and then soak the figure. It can go sideways and warp your figure, as what happened on this one. Looking back I think I was too stingy with my dye which is what made me leave the parts in too long. Havent done one in a while, but I will likely use the entire bottle next time I cook up a pot heres an example from a guy dyeing his action figures.
