The mold itself at least has potential but that HORRENDOUS "Battle Damage" paint is just RUINING it. i cannot understand why they went with such an ugly design choice...
I picked him up yesterday and my favorite feature is just how articulated he is. You can get him in almost any pose you would want, plus, due to the transformation, his head can look up for flight poses.
I really want to like it, but the greebling is just too much for me. It almost looks like Underbase powered Starscream
This guy feels like he's... Almost there. The overly detailed molding and battle damage paint is atrocious. Clean up the design, and he'd be much better. Though I still would prefer something more creative with the design. It's kinda cool that it's a G1 bot with the Cybertronian jet, but... I wish more of the vehicle was integrated into the bot mode. It'd be nice if they could've avoided the faux-cockpit, for instance. I'll be passing on this guy. Close, but no cigar, if you ask me.
well now i want a translucent yellow redeco. ...well, in theory, at least. in practice it'd just look like pissscream.
You guys think there's going to be a 35th Anniversary edition of this one? I can sorta live with the greeble eventhough I think it's ugly. But the battle damage is just .. Argh. And with all the greeble and battle damage on it and on painted parts it's going to be hell removing it.
Alright folks; get comfortable, because we're gonna see a LOT of repaints of this mold for the next few years...
Battle damage compaints aside, I think this figure looks quite good, though the “obviously formed from an F-15” chest really looks out of place. Wish they could have done more to make it look less like his regular chest. But I guess having alien alt modes that turn into roughly their cartoon design was kinda the point.
It's only obvious to us because we know how G1 Starscream's chest works, but the intakes (or in this case, thrusters) don't look anything like an F-15's... anything, and the cockpit is off, too. I like how it's been repurposed as thrusters and some kind of exposed engine part or something. The repurposing of these details is what's really endearing me to this Starscream, like how the shoulder pylons are actually the nosecone.
Im having a hard time getting past his alternate mode looking NOTHING like the actual Tetra jet in the cartoon. the toy does looks amazing and a great rendition of the character, it just doesnt look ANYTHING like the tetra jet IMVHO. I might skip this. I have something like 16 seekers from the old CHUG mode that I am perfectly happy with. I dont suppose you could do a height comparison between Sideswipe and the old Chug Starscream could you ? please?
I preordered Thundercracker, so I was looking forward to seeing how Starscream turned out. I am so glad I’m getting TC.
If u hate the legs peeking out of the alt mode u can just separate the robot from the alt mode full stop
Thanks for the review. The detailing on this figure is too over-detailed for me, but aside from that the mold itself looks pretty good.
His face is just a painted portion of the front half of his head. It looks like it will separate from the back half just fine, but there is also a light piping block that is mostly in the back of his head but also plugs into his eyes. So that would all have to line up to swap the face parts, it might just be easier to swap the whole heads. Here's one for ya! Good request! That is awesome! Haha
I think I've figured out what's off about this Starscream. His torso is entirely too wide. His waist is too wide. His legs are way too far apart. He looks like he needs to lay off the energon goodies. Because he has the exact same problems looks-wise as PotP Battleslash. He looks like a fat ass.
Well that's me back to a hell no for this figure. I just can't reward that level of design laziness with a purchase.
I'm not sure if I'll get this, Thundercracker or both but I'm wondering if the legs can be untabbed in vehicle mode to resemble the VIC VIPER from Gradius
