You'll want to dissassemble the parts first then buy some "Lacquer spray primer" ( Mr, Surfacer , Tamiya spray primer etc) and a paint mask because the fumes from those are nasty and spray at the parts u want to paint up outside , acrylic paint won't stick to bare plastic very well.
You could also try buying brush on acrylic primer like Vallejos " Surface Primer" but I'm not sure whether its a good idea to use that on transformers since they arent very durable , they also don't have any toxic fumes , make sure you wash the parts with warm soapy water and leave it for like 20 minutes as well before putting the primer on , the primer is for paint to bite into.

Excellent. What's a good way to find the right color for a part? Use color finder apps on stock photos?

Also how the hell do you remove Cyclonus's hands

Ermm I guess you could check the actual paint color in stores by checking the bottom of the bottle / jar theres a website for gunpla that has color guides for gunpla so you could try and find a gunpla that matches cyclonus's purple and the pearl bronze colors of his thighs and hands the color of primer you go with will affect the the color as well , I think Vallejo's Mecha color purple will mostly color match the purple on Cyclonus not too sure.

Oh nice. Luckily most of the purple parts are looking pretty good, it's just like the silver bits. That color shouldn't be too hard to find

Thought maybe my Silverfang that was a part of the ROTB Beast Alliance Combiner pack with Arcee was yellowing when I got it yesterday on the "shoulder" I guess for lack of a better term, but I'm pretty sure now maybe it was just some type of dirt or something that got on it sitting in the amazon warehouse beings the boxes for those things are open have virtually nothing protecting the figures at all from whatever its in contact with before it gets to your house. Real bizarre thing it was the shoulder thats not really even exposed much beings its tied to the package from its side and its the side thats not exposed. I took a damp paper towel and rubbed it a little, not completely gone, but it did seemed noticeably cleaner and the fact that no one else has reported on it leads me to believe it was probably just dirty and it was more obvious being a nearly all white figure.

Not guaranteed, of course, but I have found that Mr Color paints are often extremely good matches for Hasbro’s colours.

“Is this figure made with the last few years likely to have some yellowing issues with the plastic”

the answer, after ONE HUNDRED SIXTY PAGES should “yes, of course, every figure made recently should be assumed to have this potential”

I've been lucky. I have the following WFC trilogy figures:

    Siege
    • Megatron
    • Stormcloud and Visper (Whisper)
    • Ultra Magnus
    • Six Gun
    • Cog
    • 3 pack Impactor
    • Firedrive
    • Aimless
    Earthrise
    • Direct-Hit and Power Punch
    • Ironworks
    • Airwave
    • Slitherfang
    • Optimus Prime
    Generations Selects
    • Galactic Man Shockwave
    Kingdom
    • Beast Megatron
    • Blackarachnia
    • Optimus Primal
    • Dinobot
    • Slammer
And of all those, only Dinobot is affected, see attached. I display my collection with daily partial sun from a north-facing window.

Bought him used, so not sure what the first owner did. But I got Primal and Megatron from the same seller amd they're both fine.

EDIT: just noticed Dinobot's elbows are a touch loose. Anyone else noticing signs of yellowed plastic shrinking slightly?

Since the only one of your toys known to potentially suffer from yellowing is, in fact, suffering from yellowing I’d suggest you haven’t really been that lucky after all. Sorry.

Has anybody taken a yellowed piece and dissected it to see if it is yellowed all the way through?

We have roughly three outcomes there:
    1. Yellowed all the way through the mold piece
    2. Yellowed only at the surface air-facing portion only
    3. Yellowed at surface and part-way through but centre is normal

So come on you guys with super yellowed toys- get out the scalpel or drill and have a look! There's bound to be one of you with enough resource that you are prepared to destroy a figure. In the name of science. For the greater good. Sticking it to the corporations. Etc...

While not quite as scientific as you outlined, I did shave a few layers off a yellowing piece (wanted to see if it was strictly surface or ran deeper) and it did not scrape away, was definitely at least a few layers deeper than what I had removed.

Well I just submitted two support requests to Hasbro for yellowing on my Dinobot and Rhinox figures I just recently discovered. Hoping they give me some options for equivalent value instead of shipping me 2 Core Class figures like earlier this year when my second Tigatron yellowed.

I really hope all these figures that have had these production issue get reissued...
