Prob way too soon to tell with that considering the figure was just reported to be spotted in retail last week I think? BBTS doesn't even have him instock yet.

To be fair, BBTS doesn't receive their stock until after the second reissue is released 3 years later.

So, I was looking through a bin and am quite disappointed:
    G2 Ramjet forearms.
    Sandstorm forearms.
Top gun Maverick arms and legs.
Kingdom Cyclonus shoulders and gray pieces.

Stopped looking after seeing the Seekers affected. It's depressing.

Is it possible to include older pre-WFC era figures in this thread, because my RID '01 Prowl has some yellowing on his shoulders and shield.

I think the point though is that the yellowing has been rather abrupt, being from the last few years.

Pretty much ANYTHING you bought with white plastic from the 90s to early 2000s is probably gonna do that. I have a digital alarm clock I still use to this day from like 1998 thats is nearly all yellow that you'd never guess was white when I first got it. I remember my parents having an older corded phone that you'd hang on a wall that was white and was very yellow when they finally got rid of it in favor of more cordless phones in diff rooms in the house. A lot of toy figures even beyond transformers in white plastic from that time frame I'm pretty sure are known to have yellowed at some point.

I feel like this thread should stick to the newer releases, since they should not be yellowing as stupidly fast as they are.

It’s much more precedented that a 20-year-old figure has some yellowing, though maybe there could be a separate “normal yellowing” thread for older cases such as RID Prowl

Yeah, RID 2000 figures wouldn't count for this issue, as this new, hyper-quick yellowing is a new issue that started midway through Earthrise and seems to still be happening.

Hhmmmm what about the Earthrise version?

I was thinking about getting Sandstorm again but goddammit I can't take the funding chance. It really pisses me off too since I creaking love the figure...

I would definitely agree that environment is not the primary factor. My Tigatron and SG Starscream are yellowing, but Origins Bee and G2 Sandstorm are fine. If it were primarily an environmental issue, surely all of those would be going bad on my shelves.

Haven’t posted in this thread yet as I’ve had nothing new to add, having had some yellowing happen on a few of the figs that have been mentioned quite a lot (NF Soundwave, ER Megatron, Tigatron)… and maybe some of these have been mentioned now too, but last night I noticed that it’s happened to Kingdom Cyclonus. In the hip area only, but just the top part, where as the leg from the thigh rotation joint down is fine… and Legacy Jhiaxus. His pelvis area, just the sides at the top of both legs, is now darker than the center and the rest of the white on his body… almost has a faint light-greenish hue. I guess it’ll only be a matter of time until all his white turns?

In that case, it's Bromine that is responsible for the color change. The thing is, Hasbro doesn't use Bromine, or any fire ******ant for that matter. Whatever is causing Hasbro's figures to discolor, is something different entirely.

I'm afraid that is the begining of the process. As a matter of fact, I have noticed that there's a brown discharge of some kind of ooze coming from the discolored/faded rear crotch on both sets of my Cyclonus figures.

I agree, Keep it to the newer figures. My RID figures that are open and have been on display for 22 years now all have some kind of discoloration. Nothing really bad, just time and age. The ones that are still MISB are fine though.

My Jhiaxus is also discoloring in the same way at the same spots. For what its worth, I don't think all of his white will turn. The discoloring parts are very clearly made of a different type of plastic more 'gritty' and dense compared to the smoother, lighter plastic used for parts like the thighs. So far we've seen that its this particular plastic that turns, and not the entire figure.

The bromine thing is a long-debunked myth that was based on nothing more than "Bromine is yellow and yellowed plastic is also yellow". Bromine is far too volatile for that to occur, and even if it had been possible, the yellowing would then go coupled with an absolutely heinous smell. Yellowing is not more present in plastics that do contain bromine than those that don't. It can happen to anything constructed out of ABS plastic.

Edit: Here's someone who knows a lot more about it than I do: A Look into the Yellowing and Deyellowing of ABS Plastics | by David Flood | Medium

Right on, I hope you’re right! On the flip side, part of me wishes if it’s gonna change, then I wish all of it would. Well not with Jhiaxus per se, but like, if the entirety of Cyclonus’ thighs changed, and it were all one color (even if it’s not the color it’s supposed to be), I wouldn't find it nearly as ugly as… this…

Cybertron villains Thundercracker is also affected. He can't yellow, but "greens" in parts with less blue plastic.

yeah, mine has "greening" at the back fins and right above the forearms. My Skywarp from the same set also had his forearms turn a very pale shade of purple.

Legacy/kingdom Blaster has started to turn yellow. Same for his tape. Button panel hurts the most. 28E2AB66-A239-4629-BB22-85DEB99B8DF2.jpeg FDB31458-795A-4EDB-9EC0-DF48C38077C3.jpeg 0E295FAA-9638-47C8-8F4F-DA4A3259F6B1.jpeg FF2B5A82-FC7D-4CBF-BE4B-46ECF7029F5D.jpeg 0DEDC802-C53C-432F-8127-39E77A90D3BE.jpeg
