I dislike the way Prime's hood turns into a backpack. So I cut off the end of the piece that holds the hood onto his waist. It can easily slide back into place for his alt mode. I thought it would look cool as a shield. It fits well when his fist is folded in. He is also less bulky this way. It can also be put back in its original place in robot mode if you like it that way. Making the hood piece removable makes his transformation a little bit simpler.
Wow, that looks about 1 million times better. Thanks for sharing, man! ...I can't wait to get my hands on this figure... - Alty
Nice! Just a question though, slightly off topic, do his wheels fold in closer together on his back like in the game? Or is that as close together as they can get?
They can fold in closer to each other, but not closer to his body. I just prefer it the way I have it in the pics.
Super, doing this mod right away. Mostly because of what you said about the transformation being simpler (!)
Well, I say it's simpler because that one cumbersome step where you have to rotate the hood around his waist completely goes away since the hood is detachable. So it transforms similar to older versions of prime only you flip him over.
No, The hood slips back on snugly and will not fall out even with force. It requires pulling to detach.
good idea, but I prefer modding without destruction if possible first. I'd just take the screw off the hood, so that you still have a storage spot to put back on him so it doesn't have to always be in his hands, and the hinge still kinda looks like the flaps he's got on his back still like in game. Or even heat/punch the pin out instead of random snipping..... Still, good idea, just needs more thought.
I actually went through quite a few ideas before doing this. This one worked the best. Taking the screw off the hood was the first thing I did. It doesn't have to always be in his hands. You can still put it in his back like normal. That's why I like it. It just makes the hood removable so you can do what you want with it.
Instead of cutting the piece, I pushed out the metal rod that connects the shield to the part circling his waist. still does the same thing, but with a reversible effect, so you can always revert it back if you want to store or move it.
Yeah, I did that too, but then ran into the problem of how to have him hold the shield because that bit wouldn't fit anywhere. I didn't just simply want to have a hood that wasn't there. Removing/replacing pins is a rather annoying process for me, not to mention you'd need tools to actually remove the pin.
