Kingdom Leader T-Wrecks



In a bizarre scenario, here in Australia T-Wrecks has started showing up on Toy World shelves, despite still not having been officially announced in any form yet. While we’ve known about this guy for a while thanks to leaks, I can’t think of many times where we have a product sitting on shelves before Hasbro acknowledges it exists. While this guy is a straight repaint, so I don’t need to go over much, I thought I’d just quickly say my thoughts.



T-Wrecks is a Dinobot that was originally released in the Beast Machines Dinobot line, a line of reprints of various Japanese Beast Wars dinosaur figures that were not yet released overseas. A group of Maximal Dinosaurs, T-Wrecks was one of the few non-Japanese figures, being a straight repaint of the original Ultra Class Megatron. His bio heavily implies that he’s actually a new body for Grimlock (upgraded from his BW Raptor form), but media has consistently depicted him as a completely seperate character.



So it makes total sense that the Kingdom T-Wrecks is a straight redeco of Kingdom Megatron, just like the original toy. T-Wrecks takes homaging his original toy to the extreme, leaving basically his entire robot torso and the majority of his robot legs completely unpainted. Comparing his robot mode to the original Megatron’s robot mode is pretty bleak, so much of the cool details are lost in this toy-accurate philosophy. It feels bizarre to me that they were willing to be toy accurate to T-Wrecks to the robot-mode’s detriment, but Kingdom Grimlock is given a different deco compared to his original toy. Another oddity is the fact that T-Wrecks uses the exact same head as Megatron. The images on the box show him with the leaked alternate head homages the original Megatron/T-Wrecks toy, but the actual physical toy does not have it. This is super disappointing as it would’ve been a great way to make the toy feel a little different to Megatron and I’d imagine would make this guy a better seller. What they HAVE done is put some silver paint in between his lips to try and make it LOOK like he’s gritting his teeth and the effect kind of works but I’d vastly have preferred the new head.



Now I’ve whined about the robot mode a bit, please allow a change of pace because T-Wreck’s is sickening in his T-Rex mode. The metallic purple is absolutely stunning and the red and purple clash together in the best kind of tacky way and I absolutely love it. The silver teeth are the icing on the cake when it comes to this guy’s awesomely bizarre-o deco. Where he flops in Robot mode he soars in Dino mode, where there is no missing paint and everything just looks great. Photos just can’t properly catch the purple’s metallic sheen but in real life this camp T-Rex is gorgeous.



So all in all I am a little bit disappointed by the robot mode but I’m absolutely in love with the T-Rex mode. Kingdom Megatron is probably my favourite Classics/Universe/Generations/Whatever figure in history so I have no complains about having a second version of it (and I am hype for when Rexy is announced) but I do wish that robot-mode had lent a little less toy-accurate for the deco and tried instead to focus on looking good. Plus the lack of a new head to seperate him from Megatron a bit more is very disappointing.

Also of note is a total lack of Golden Disk in the box. He’s certainly not supposed to be part of the main line, so he’ll definitely be a store exclusive overseas, but no idea where.

 

I was considering skipping him, but that dino mode is stunning.

 

Agreed on your great review. Bot mode looks boring, but I can SO picture having both T rex's fighting like that on display.

I'm sure the face thing has got to be some factory or pre production mistake, since the paint apps are clearly meant to go with the other head mold. 90% sure it was unintended, which is sad as the alt mold looked great.

 

I prefer the colors of the original robot mode. A browner chest and legs, and a fully blue waist - as opposed to the flat grey chest we did get with the new toy and a partially blue waist. I just find that flat grey to be boring, and the partially blue waist to be unfinished. I do however like the silver "tooth necklace" that the new toy has in robot mode. I am glad that Hasbro remembered T-Wrecks exists though.

 

Yeah, I wish the new T-Wrecks had a painted (maybe brown metallic?) chest torso.

The alt mode looks fantastic.

Need to find someone with a Red Card.

 

Thank you for the awesome pictures! I have to admit - after those he moved from the "not gonna get it" status to the "maybe" status. Though I will wait to see what Hasbro is gonna do with the Jurassic Park collab pack.

Yeah, I really like the beast mode deco but the robot mode is disappointing with it's plain looking torso and upper legs (IMO), not to mention the unremolded headdculpt.

A pity, I would have got this if it weren't for those two things, but I don't feel like paying Leader class money for a robot mode I find less interesting than it's predecessor's.

 

I dunno. I might get this if someone knows of a good shade of blue paint that I can use to give the lips a wash to make them look like shading instead of the silver teeth lipstick he has, which just looks terrible.

I always wanted a T Wrecks, but I never could find the orignal for a good price.

 

I’m really excited about this figure. I’m nostalgic for the original figure since it was my second Transformers figure. I am just hoping he gets announced soon so I can pick him up. May add some of the missing paint apps myself.

 

Got ours today.

Basically, a lot less paint, no cards, and even stiffer split crotch assembly.

 

I wish 3p gave him a replacement head.

 

Jurassic Park redeco/remold looks better. This one's an easy pass.

 

Yup. Target waited too long to activate their preorder. I would have bought it but now I’m going to pass too. The Jurassic Park version is better.

 

I love the metallic blue on him and he is far easier to transform to beast mode than Megatron, the torso and crotch untabs very easily on T-Wrecks, it felt like Megatron was going to break.

How does the sandy/tan plastic look in person? In some photos it's nearly grey, but in others it has a bit of saturation.

 

My brain says gray with a slight yellow tint.
