Just looking at the earth mode Red Alert thread with the August 1 release date and it occurred to me many of us will get him before this Sideswipe! That's pretty cool!

 

Looking at Earth mode Sideswipe and my Spin Out, I kinda wish Sideswipe had painted roof and side intakes. And that black shoulder hinge looks terrible. Siege Sideswipe had painted intakes :/

 

Yeah, at least the intakes will be easy to fix though. Not sure about the shoulder hinges, the only version of this mold I have is Gigawatt and he doesn't have those hinges so I don't know how the clearance is but I really hope there's enough room to paint them red and not have it scratch off during transformation.

 

Last minute milking (semi-milking?  ) of some parts from the old MP-12 Sideswipe mould I see.

Hopefully may mean a new MP Sidester on the horizon ....

 

Huh? This mold has no parts from MP Sideswipe, so how could they be milking that mold?

 

By using the old CAD designs for the MP mould they have stored in a computer whilst making a few surface tweaks along the way - I dont mean literally ported over because they're obviously not the same size.

Hence the comment "semi-milking"  

You seriously can't see the obvious 90% resemblance to MP SS?? Thighs? Hood? Legs? Facesculpt? Wow.  

 

Umm, thighs and headsculpt are carried over from the Siege version, not the MP.

 

The thighs and head are from the Siege mold, the hood was designed to look like Earthrise Sunstreaker. Simple as that.

 

Which again, itself drew heavily from the MP. Chicken and egg. It literally couldn't look more like MP12 and here I am arguing the MP was a massive influence.

Each to their own guys, but I respect your diff opinion.

Comparison aside, I can't help feeling there's an entirely new way to tackle Sideswipe, toy-wise, over this oft' repeated aesthetic.

Look at him here. Different in almost every way: chunky feet, cooler face, smaller chest ... and that I suppose is the crux of the issue: the old faux-chest chestnut.

Unless they somehow design a (in no way super-expensive passed on in the RRP to us  ) collapsible one working for bot AND alt modes?

Guess they're goinna have to tackle that at some point when they revisit him for the inevitable V2 MP, but for now ... I digress.  

 

but Sunstreakers alt mode looked straight-up horrible, in particular the weird detail under the windscreen. so weird thing to homage.

I'd really have loved to see the chunkier feet on this guy. they look so much better then the swim fins he's got.

 

I've mentioned a few times on the these boards that I wanted a CHUG Sideswipe that resembled the MP and had an alt-mode that looked like a red version of ER Sunstreaker's - or Spinout's.

Perhaps I might wish that the feet were a little chunkier, or that there was a bit of red on the arms (hopefully we'll get a red 3P add-on weapon/effect that will have a similar effect) but this version of Sideswipe is pretty much what I've been asking for all along..

I actually like the Siege versions, but I missed that original bright red deco, and when they released ER Sunstreaker, I lamented we couldn't get something like this:
Just can't complain now .


Now then, where's that Marvel deco Ratchet and more shelf-friendly Marvel Fort Max and Scorponok.... .

 

have you seen the new Star Wars Black Series comic packs? that would be a fantastic style for a subline to put out Magenta Soundwave, Marvel Ratchet, maybe Silver + Black Helmet ER Megatron (who else had a distinct deco difference?)...
(bet it'd sell a lot more then the Shattered Glass ones)
