For the third entry in the War For Cybertron Selects line, the Siege Shockwave mold was redecoed to homage Galactic Man, a grey version of G1 Shockwave exclusive to RadioShack in the 1980's. Galactic Man Shockwave, along with Lancer, saw an early release at the Entertainment Earth booth during SDCC 2019. The pictures I'll provide will mostly be side-by-side comparisons to the Siege figure.

Here's the unarmored spaceship mode which totally doesn't look like a laser pistol at all. Due to the nature of the deco it looks like the Siege figure run through a monochrome filter. In a pleasant surprise, there's no battle damage paint apps. It actually brings to my attention that Siege Shockwave doesn't have a gray barrel, and that might be why this mode looked so strange to me in the purple deco.


Armored Alt mode looks about what you'd expect. No surprises here. I personally prefer this mode more in the purple deco.


Unarmored robot mode is my preferred display option though. I think I prefer Shockwave with a red eye. It's pretty striking.


Here's a close-up of the Galactic Man tampograph, which is the cherry on top of this homage.


The armored robot mode also looks about what you'd expect, but looks more intimidating in gray IMO.


And since I feel like someone is gonna ask, here's how they look with swapped armor.


Size comparison with Lancer:


Attendees that purchased this figure at SDCC also got a free pin of this figure and Lancer. They gave these pins away like candy by Sunday though, which is pretty funny.


Overall, it's a pretty normal redeco. I wouldn't call it a must-have, but fans of Transformers history would appreciate this deco, and could provide an alternative if you're still on the fence about Siege Shockwave.

 

regular shockwave's purple gun barrel is going to bother the shit out of me now.

 

Robot mode looks real cool. The red eye in particular is quite catching.

Despite my reservations regarding pricepoint versus actual toy, I have two on the way. Galactic Man was the only "Shockwave" little Drunkula knew back in the day.

So, what is the consensus on this fellow: Is he just Shockwave in gray, or another character entirely?

 

What a beautiful surprise and happy for you. I thought that Galactic Man could have been sold by half November with Apeface but all of these reviews could mean arrival will be much earlier.

 

Thanks for the detailed review! I think a Tandy/Radio Shack branded box would have been the tipping point for me. As it stands, I'm not urging to get one.

 

his titty tattoo is hilarious. i want a matching one that says "galactic transformer" or something.

 

Just opened mine and I love him! Only issue the shoulder pads don't plug in tight on the sides of his hoverboard mode and fall off at the slightest jiggle. Hoping some Future will help.

 

Got it, love it. Still giving side eye to that "Leader Class" designation, but I won't beat a dead horse (too late). Absolutely love that he has no faction symbol, true to the original Galactic Man but also allows kids and collectors to decide for themselves who he is/represents in their play/collections.

 

Also noticed last night that his inner chest is painted up such that it draws more attention to the faux electronics detailing, including some red, white and green "wiring" detail paint - you can see a bit of it in ACMagnus and analogue's photos above. Really digging that detail.

 

Since this guy will go on a later character shelf with Soundblaster (and the toy colored Reflector, hey if Soundwave can come back with a new paintjob then the other guys can, too) I think I will leave his armor on to differentiate them a little more.

 

I can imagine g1 shockwaves voice in the original purple one, and primes shockwave voice in the galactic man that be a cool idea having them as brothers in the Netflix show

 

I really can't wait to get a copy of this figure. Come on money,money and mooonnnnneeyy.

 

That is an awesome detail! I didn't even notice.

In my head cannon, I'm seeing Galactic Man as the complete opposite of Shockwave's cold logic. Like what if Shockwave purged his raw emotion and it formed it's own consciousness.

Also while messing with him, since his armor's hoverboard mode won't stay pegged together, I decided to make a jet pack for him instead.
