I find that splaying the legs out to a wide stance (not quite a full Van Damme, but close) and then using the downward curve of his tail as a kickstand, he's quite stable.

As I've said before up-thread because he's front heavy with the mass of his head & neck moved forward in dinobird mode it helps to use the weight of his wings to counterbalance that so posing him with the forward main rotational wing joints in-line over his feet can help stabilise him. I also second @Gepard's use of the tail as a third point of contact/extra support. Squatting the legs down digitigrade bent at the knee rather than "flamingo straight" can add stability too in my experience.

Was never a fan if his official Bird mode. My preferred configuration involves shortening the neck and tail, which not only helps balance his weight but also gives him better proportions so his feet don’t look that silly. Now he looks like a real bird and not the top half of a “Dragon”.

Also I’m pretty sure those additional knee joints are meant for the Lynx mode. That also gives him better proportions and makes him more cat like.

His proportions are actually pretty good for a Protobird like an archaeopteryx, pretty sure that's why they've feathered his wings when the G1 design didn't.

Yea its just the neck is way to long in that mode it just comes off as silly. Having it down to 2 or 3 neck joints makes it look no different than archaeopteryx. Having his some of his neck joints collapse into his body adds some weight to balance out and helps him stand better

Have to politely disagree, that protobird neck looks way longer than your preference, or 2 or 3 neck joints to me, plus the length gives me the impression that he's maybe that bit closer to a dinosaur as protobird's go.
I understand you not digging that aesthetic but to say he doesn't look like a real bird seems wrong to me. That "silly" long neck exists on actual real birds!

Yeah, they're flightless BUT they are also archaic as species go.

They also have small heads, Sky Lynx doesn’t. To each their own I guess. We have yet to discover a flying non-avian Dinosaur that looks like Sky Lynx anyways, so this mode is entirely fictional in contex.

I've been filing the insides of the thrusters for about a half hour now and it seems to fit better. It's not quite there yet, so I still have some more work to do.

Also, it seems my copy came with two right shuttle wheels. I shaved some plastic off one of the sides, since it was bowing out towards the wing when retracted. It was nothing too major, but more of an annoyance for such an expensive figure.

This is a great update to the G1 design. Like many others I am having a hard time making the shuttle bird stable in a standing pose. The Lynx is my favorite part. I love him.

Bird shuttle for me is fine for various poses. Just need to get used to center of gravity and making sure his heels are planted down. The toes and heels don't seem very strong but is needed for stable posing, along with the ankle tilts.

    Copied from EAT thread:
Various poses with Sky Lynx. Only feet (or just one foot in last pic) are touching the ground for support. The toes and heels may not seem that strong at first but they need to be properly positioned for dynamic posing.

his shuttle does not want to stay on the base mode securely at all. very wobbly, very precarious. Ami I doing something wrong? Or is it defective?

Copying yet another post in the EAT thread:
Not sure if that's a true issue or intentional. The ports inside the shuttle thrusters taper, so pegs can't go very far. Blast effects plastic squishes down while solid pegs will obviously not. The outer diameter is sized correctly on the thruster ports.

Regardless, the way to stabilize the shuttle is to tab in the ramp on the notch of the shuttle bay door while it's open.

This is the reverse view of the ramp. I circled where the notch plugs into:

Boy, you're not kidding. I just checked my copy and a rigid 5 mm post fit maybe 1/2 mm into the ports.

Luckily I have a 5 mm drill bit, so I just drilled out the interiors of the thrusters and blast effects fit a lot better now; they wouldn't even go all the way in before. He still doesn't peg all that tightly onto the launch pad, but I think that's more to do with how short the pegs are. There's not much grip there. But it's a definite improvement.

Edit: sticking a 5 mm peg in the third port gives a good solid grip. I cut this one off of a TLK Hound cannon.

    IMG_20200730_221045514_copy_1228x1637.jpg

It's strong enough that I can pick the whole assembly up by the shuttle.

    IMG_20200730_221421434_copy_1228x1637.jpg

Unfortunately, because the engines in the shuttle are angled, the whole thing sits at a noticable rake:

    IMG_20200730_221257981_copy_1228x1637.jpg

So bear that in mind if you decide to do this.

The entire way Hasbro handled this needed some additional work; there should have been three full 5 mm pegs on the base, and they should have been angled to compensate for the tilt of the rocket nozzles. I suspect shrinking the size of the ports was a last minute fix, as it means the shuttle rests above the pegs and straightens the whole thing out, albeit at the expense of stability.

It seems like the base pegs are meant as a guide rather than something to plug into. The ramp will then plug into the shuttle notch and then keep it stable at a 90 degree angle.

Thank you so much for this. Makes the shuttle mode so much better!
