V suffered from some dated politics and trouble it had updating them, but the story was still recognizable as the original.

LXG discarded just about everything that made the original story interesting. Quartermain was a standard hero, rather than a fallen one looking for redemption. Mina wasn't just a socially inappropriate divorcee, but a vampire. The Invisible Man wasn't the original, wasn't a killer and pervert. It was poorly written, poorly acted, and poorly realized. It is one of the few films which I can say I find nothing of merit.

I dunno... Jason Flemyng's Jekyll and Hyde is perhaps the only redeeming aspect of that film. Though its ruined since his Hyde isn't in love with Mina.

valid points regarding the time. but if i remember correctly there are a lot of hints dropped throughout the book that lead up to that creature. such as Ozy's cat thing. which is still in the film...i wonder how they plan to explain that

First time I saw the trailer, I couldve sworn they played Smashing pumpkins, but the second time it had another song along with it.

Looks awesome. I have faith in David Hayter's screenplay.

Even in the most faithful film adaptation, things will need to be dropped. It'll be easy enough to drop the snippets that forshadow "the thing", or replace them with hints of the new plot.

As for Bubastis, it merely serves to show the level of technology nipple boy has at his disposal.

I don't think the Pumpkins are in the film.

We do know the opening credits are done to "The Times They Are A'Changin" by Dylan, and every single review so far says it works brilliantly (set against a montage to establish the world).

Agreed in full. Just like I feel 100 Bullets would be impossible to make into a movie with many sequels. It just wouldn't do story any justice at all.

But I have hopes for The Watchmen. I know that it's not going to follow everything exactly as it did on paper but if can manage to pull it off with as minimal changes as possible, I'd be happy.

You probably saw two different trailers. There are like 3 of them now, two with the song by the Pumpkins, and this one with Take a Bow by Muse. If anything by Muse is in the movie, my head WILL explode.

moot point here, but i wasn't wanting to argue the movie.
i was just glad to have a coherent trailer to show people so i didn't have to explain the book.
although my dad got a kick out of the fact Nixon was still Prez in 1985 and we won in Vietnam- funniest fiction he had heard in ages.

as for mini-series, not all handle source material so well.
I hated, abhored "The Stand", IMHO. but that's just me.
    it coulda been better.

As I hadn't read V, I found it a nice little topical film about tyranny. Plus John Hurt playing 'Big Brother' made me laugh.

Having read LXG, I found the movie disgusting. Just a mindless popcorn flick choked full of corny lines. Which was annoying, because I want a film of Volume 2. Best WotW story ever!

Watchmen looks pretty damn faithful. But, as always, the bloody slow motion is killing it for me, especially after seeing how horribly it was used in 300...

So wait the song they used for the first sew trailers, was a pumpkins song?

What's the name? Although the rest of their music may not be to my liking I thought that this one had a very unique sound.

The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, the imaginatively named remix of The End is the Beginning is the End off the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

Because it was an insult to audiences intelligence wrapped up in faux-intellectual bullshit dialogue. Just like the Matrix sequels.

    SLOW MOTION KNIFE FIGHT.

But be warned....the two songs are NOT THE SAME.

The B&R version's lyrics are different, only the chorus is the same (Listened to both the other night.)

I like the new version better anyhoo.

v was okay. LXG was wasted celluloid, and the idea we should get a decent LXG sequel or otherwise is laughable.
no wonder moore hates watching his work sodomized on screen...
