They were stereotypical caricatures. In my opinion, they were incredibly stupid and pointless, but they weren't offensive.

Stereotypical, but not really racist IMO.

I just want to warn you that this thread will be shut down. This topic has been brought up before and it always goes down into bad territory. I agree that they aren’t racist but you can’t convince everyone

Honestly, they were no worse (and impo far less obnoxious) then what you would see in movies like Nutty Professor and Madea. In fact didn't their voice actors ham it up themselves? I thought they were a hoot!

Yeah, I just saw them as inner city teenagers, not anything pertaining to a particular race.

I would have said they were just mildly offensive caricatures if it wasn't for the fact that their face design included big lips and ears, a flat nose, and a gold tooth. That's the robot equivilleny to blackface, which is racist. Additionally, they made an "I can't read" joke.

I still see that as them being teenagers who think they’re really streetwise so don’t feel they need any kind of education.

Their faces with big ears and buck teeth say ‘hillbilly’ to me rather than anything else, which is definitely stereotyping, but not racist.

Illiteracy is a common stereotype of inner city black people.

Yes, but together with their facial features and their mannerisms, it is quite clear they are meant to represent black people

They themselves weren't racist. How they were handled was. As characters, they were harmless and didn't mean to hurt or offend anyone.

As creations, they were incredibly mishandled.

I can sort of understand the hillbilly angle, but it's definitely making a stretch. Their facial features are much more representative of a caricature of a black person. Again, the flattened nose, large lips and ears are distinctly stereotypes for black people. The gold tooth might be hillbilly.

There is a long history of this stuff in Hollywood. They do not get the benefit of doubt here.

Oh absolutely. The black guy with bad teeth in Simmonds’ mum’s shop was way worse.
