After all the crap that has happened latley, I convinced my parents to have me homeschooled. This way I don't have to deal with the bullies or worry about shooters. Yep, things are finally looking up. :)

    I chose homeschooling over life.
    Maybe it chose me.

I personally think homeschooling is bad for kids.

Sure, sometimes the child may end up ahead of their public school counterparts academically, but you miss out of a lot of the experiences and interactions that I think are important for kids. I firmly believe the social skills learned and developed by going to public (or even private) school are very important for a child's growth.

I don't know what the hell has happened to school since I was a kid. It was so easy - just go to school. Now there's security, a cop on duty, drug-sniffing dogs doing random searches, kids out of control, teachers with no control, and crap like what happened last week. What the hell has changed???

This. Literally *every* single person I know who has been homeschooled, while being ridiculously book smart, is completely incapable of handling themselves within society.

I'm kinda on the fence about homeschooling. Guess it depends on the curriculum. Though it kinda excludes the kids from the social aspect of school.

I think there are more important (to you) reasons for being homeschooled that, based on previous behavior and statements, you're not mentioning.

The stigma of no social skills from home schooling is a joke. You do know that kids can still play with their friends even though they don't sit next to each other in class, right? Parents still should be supplementing their studies with things like AYSO soccer, little league, gymnastics, or whatever other after school programs there might be in the community. Just because you're homeschooled, it doesn't mean you're a shut-in.

If the title of this thread is any indication of the efficacy of your schooling up until now, then it sounds like homeschooling might not be a bad idea.

Point taken. I guess it all depends on the curriculum used. I imagine there's some good ones out there.

Sure, sure - you're absolutely right. Homeschooling doesn't necessarily mean you grow up in a bubble. I just believe that kids benefit from the social interactions they get through a "normal" school.

But - you mentioned friends. Many, if not most, of the friends I have come from meeting them in school.

Personally I think today's public school curriculum's are a joke and felt I just got a remedial 8th grade education throughout my 4 years of high school because of the dumbing down of the high school's curriculum in order to process as many drones as they could instead of just failing the dumbasses out of school. I think I would have been better served by being home schooled and more than likely would have shown more interest in education. Best of luck to you!

You still have to worry about bullies and shooters. Those exist outside of school, you know.

I was homeschooled for a while, back in '96. Every time the instructor came to the house I hid in the boiler room :) . Never did pass 6th grade, but my parents did enroll me into 7th grade. *shrugs* DON'T ASK ME. I went back to an actual school in 7th grade. But because of missing the 6th grade I never learned geometry and that hurt me a lot in high school. That being said, I was so bad in math I couldn't do the majors I wanted in college, but I did end up with 2 Masters Degrees regardless. Good luck to you in your endeavors.

I LOVED being home schooled, it was great. I had a social life, all day I played with my kitten (alive at the time) and then waited for my friends to get home from school and then played with them the rest of the day.
