Glad welker is doing his voice.

Just hoping its not a direct match from G1.....they need to make his voice abit more modern.
Still have the heavy robotic mono tone to it but make his voice sound more demonic.

And he has to say these lines in the movie.
    "As you command Megatron"
    "Decepticons Superior......Autobots Inferior"
    "RAVAGE,LAZERBEAK EJECT EJECT"

FRANK WELKER IS MEGATRON. JUST AS PETER CULLEN IS OPTIMUS PRIME You got the great Peter Cullen back as Optimus Prime. Why not Frank Welker as Megs? I Don't understand.

    Soundwave

I believe that this is real. it would make sense because I know that Bay wanted FRank in the first movie but he had no place in it. If Soundwave was to get his true voice back then my fav. Decepticon would be BADASS.

If the news is true, it'll be very good that Mr Welker is back! :D

I keep reading comments about the deadline of three months from now being too close for the VA sessions when considering Bay's wording.

Is it not within the realm of possibility that Frank has already voiced Soundwave? It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to say that you are pursuing it rather than wholy admit to having done it already. One thing I have to respect Bay on for all the legitimate complaints people have of him is he really does respect the audience enough to try to keep the story under wraps.

Based on the approximate 3 minutes of footage we have available right now, I don't think any of us that go into that theater open to the potential of this movie will walk away from it feeling jaded.

The first film had to be a real challenge, first big hurdle would be the concept of it being G1 inspired while trying to remain current. Though many of us enjoyed the first film I don't believe any of us were entirely sure the formula would work. Admittedly it did not always succeed in delivering what is expected of this series but now they have a foundation to work on.

If we look back at the original G1 series; even those of us who are deeply loyal to it no doubt find alot of flaws in it. From animation errors to choices of characters to the continuity of the series as a whole. But once the foundation had been laid, the series has had a rather surprisingly enduring legacy.

Comparing the story quality to Beast Wars, Beast Machines or Animated G1 totally comes up short with few exceptions. Whether that was the limitations of the eighties or unrefined craft I leave it up to individual opinion.

My point is that whether Welker is doing Soundwave or not, there is a reason he was kept out of the first film. The creators wanted to do him justice, and the choices they made on the first film prevented him. I can only assume then they know what they are doing with him this time around. And if Frank is voicing him then wonderful. If he isn't, none of us will be disappointed, of that I am all but certain.

It'll be great if Welker is onboard for Soundwave, no-one can do the character as well as him, and the original voice is one of the signatures of G1, so I am all for it.

Have a look at this clip. I like the rumble in his voice if they gave it a little bit more a rumble to it i think it would sound Perfect.

The people saying that it doesn't matter who voices SW, 'cus anybody can sound like him with the vocoder are correct.
But I think the main reason a lot of fans want him to do it (myself included), is not so much the voice but the fact that he should be involved somehow in the movies.

Because Welker's Megatron sounds HORRIBLE. Of all the classic 80's villains (Skeletor, Mum-Rah, Destro, Gargamel, etc) Megatron was one of the lamest. PERIOD. It wasn't until Beast Wars, and Transformers Animated that Megatron actually became a villain worthy of legend. Peter Cullen was a nice nod to G1, but any of the other actors that have done Prime recently can do just as quality a job. Welker's Megatron voice doesn't fit. Want proof? Play the Movie video game. Welker's Megatron voice sounds old and weak. No rage, no power. A dying man who smoked too much. Not much to fear.

Hugo Weaving managed to convey all the things Welker never managed to do with Megatron: True contempt, rage, hatred, disgust, and most of all, real power.

Welker should be Jetfire... an old fart waaaay past his prime (no pun intended).

Michael Bay is not concerned with dialog or story, just pretty special effects and explosions. Why invest in trying to tell a meaningful story with decent dialog, when you can just add a "Little Readers" storyline later in post-production?

    See Prime.
    See Prime transform.
    Drive Prime, drive!

    See Megatron.
    See Megatron shoot.
    Die Prime, die!

Nice to read how some folks post show how little regard they have for the voice actors who used their talent to bring these characters to life back in the day.

By all means it is your right and your entitled to your opinions. I for one would be glad to see the old guy get some recognition, get paid, and feel some love from the fandom he helped create back in the beginning.

Did people even hear Welker's movie game Megatron? It sounded atrocious. I like the guy, he was a great voice actor, but, alas, with age comes loss of talent.

I simply cannot understand all of the bitching about people want him for Soundwave. Sure, it would be a nice nod, but all in all, anyone's voice can be edited to sound like Shoundwave's.

in welkers defense....everything we have heard of his megatron today was with out vocoder work (this includes the game). in g1 welkers voice was altered to sound more metalic...if they did that to his voice it would sound just like the g1 version...welker didnt lose any talent, he can still do an 80s megatron, its just a matter of whether or not the production team will add the needed effects like were done for g1....

because if ANYONE can do it....why NOT have the one who originally played him do it? its all going to sound the same anyways so what good reason is there to NOT have welker do it?

Guys, if movies can be completely edited 1 week before release, adding voice to the robots can probably be done in 3 months.
