This thread is where you can post any sort of weird, obscure or oddball facts you know. It came be about anything, just so long as it's true!

-Whale milk has the consistency of warm cream cheese.

-Giraffes DO make sounds, however they are below our range of hearing, and for the longest time it was thought that they were mute.

-The Fairly Oddparents episode "Twistory" was banned from airing for nearly decade due to excessive British stereotypes (everyone had bad teeth, over-the-top accents.). Fairly Oddparents has always had big issues with stereotypes (especially British ones) but most fans agree that this episode was the worst about it. The episode recently started to air again, however.

-If a sign is left on a tree for long enough, as the tree grows it will absorb the sign. You can find quite a few pics online of trees "eating" objects they were up against, such as fences.

Some types of tarantula, often mothers with eggs, form partnerships with small frogs. The frogs make for exceptional ant/pest-eaters, the main threat to a spider's eggs. In exchange for having their offspring protected from such menaces or not having to deal with ants in general, the tarantula protects the frog from its own enemies, such as snakes or other arthropods. This beneficial relationship is strong enough that a tarantula will even release the frog if it catches it, recognising it as an ally instead of a morsel (or maybe recognising the frog has toxins in its skin :p )

Ophiocordyceps unilateralis is a type of fungus that infect ants. it breeds within the ant takes over the bug into the closes to a zombie. it doesn't eat other ants but it does send the zombie ant to tall plants and busts out, sending it's spores to the sky to infect other ants to repeat the process.

the pokémon Paras and Parasect are based on this fungi/insect relationship. when Paras evolves into Parasect, its eyes are completely white. the classic sign of a zombie with it's white eyes. it means the fungi has taken over the pokémon.

i didn't notice this until years later in the third generation pokémon games

I know too many. I'll keep it to just a few.

You know what fish in the Amazon I would fear most? The candiru, a small, slender, blood-sucking catfish that typically attaches itself near the gills of larger fish. If you want to know why, just look it up. Speaking of the Amazon, there are over 3,000 species of fish in the Amazon.

The elephant-nosed mormyrid fish of Africa has a brain 3% of its body mass, which is massive for a fish or most any animal really. 60% of its energy goes to its brain. Like electric eels and sharks they can detect electrical fields.

The olm is a neotenous (retains juvenile characteristics as an adult), practically blind, cave-dwelling salamander found in the Balkans. Its closest relatives are the North American mudpuppies. At one point they were considered baby dragons with their pale, sinuous bodies and feathery, gills. Given the scarcity of food in its subterranean habitat and their low metabolism they hardly eat, and they live for many decades. According to Australian zoologist Tim Flannery an olm was once kept alive in a jar in a fridge without being fed for twelve years. After a dozen years without food it was still alive, and when it was dissected the digestive system had been absorbed by the body!

That whole Candiru things mostly a myth. You've got a better chance of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.

Here's one - most car horns are tuned to the key of F.
