Hi guys! It’s my first time posting here I managed to get hold of a Robot formers Oversized Starscream MP-11 and had a brain wave to do bit of a mini project of making a diorama with him. I’m a fan of weathering robots and storytelling (prob comes from love of Gundams ) and was inspired to use the Starscream figure as practise. For this rather then doing a whole repaint, I’ve retouched using AK weathering paints and even added some Gundam decals (yeh I know, hardly authentic ) to give a bit of extra discrete details. Here’s what the original figure looked like and my current WIP. Have more plans for the base and setting up a scene itself. Will post more WIP as good along, thanks!
haha yeahhh, maybe I was going for War of Cybertron range style of weathering but x 4 in grimeness.... I might clean it up a bit depending on final look once other pieces are in thank you!
Soooo managed to get my hands on a cheap Kubianbao KO oversized Bumblebee which matches the scale of Starscream well. Plan was to use him as part of the diorama. Warning! People who don’t like to look at damaged toys....look away now! Basically I dismantled him and bashed/scorched/weathered him into scrap parts...which I will then scatter onto the base. Poor fella, I felt bad ha but then again he was never meant to be the star of the show!
Haha thanks! so managed to get a lot done on the base with the Bee parts. Basically I roughly chose the parts I wanted on the base and roughly laid a position out. Next it was the case of attaching them to the base, I knew I wanted a destroyed debris look so I made some paper clay to submerge the parts in and then it was a case of blending the pieces with real dirt and gravel and loads of glue to secure everything. After that, to make it more convincing he’s not hollow, I added exposed wires, screws and bolts for scale and more paint work to blend him with the debris.
WoW!! phenomenal job, that distressing on Bee is some of the best work i have seen, i'd love to see a video of you doing it really interested in this kind of stuff
thanks!! Thanks man! Really like your painting work too! The Star Wars stuff was sick! Unfortunately I didn’t take a video since not something I normally do but I might start! Though tbh I don’t think I’m doing anything complex technique wise, I’ll gladly explain my steps First I used the gunk wash technique to dirty the whole model and slowly cleaned it but leaving some stains there and now, especially in the crevices. Next, luckily some of Bees body was actual painted die cast, so I really did mash bits of it with a hammer which helped scraped some of the actual paint off the metal to achieve a more realistic paint wear look. For the finishing touches, I used the AK paints...specifically these 2 (which i seem to overuse often ), the engine grime and streaming grime. The streaking grime is a useful tone for rust streaks and even chipping. How to apply it, I found the official AK video tutorials very good for this: Hope this helps! Think I’m pretty much done, just gotta combine everything and take some flashy photos...will post the final results here when done
That looks really cool. Very visceral with Bee! where’s Bee’s head? Throw some wires on the neck and have Starscream holding it by the wires!
Some great information there, thank you for sharing your method ..i like seeing how other people do stuff. you have done an excellent job here, look forward to seeing it finished
Looks real good. Have him hold Bee’s head dangling by the wires. That way you get a good look at Bee’s face
Poor bumblebee... i quite like the g1 version... maybe you could make a MPM BB for your dio as well? this looks fantastic btw!
