I have one of these sweet sumbitches and I'm wanting to kit him up with some more gear than just the keen pistol/dual cannon combo he has. He's 12" tall so I assume thanks to having chosen the blue version that any guns/swords/axes/shields that would look cool in his hands can be found amongst the wide variety of 12" Optimus kits. What I'm more interested in are weapons pods for the removable shoulder sockets. Here, I've simply removed the right arm and swung the back-stored cannon forward as if it plugged into the shoulder socket, and given him a handy Grimlock sword. And here's the 'toad' variant just for funs: The plugs are about 2cm across and tall, fwiw; but I'm sure I can rig up feasible plugs if the weapon is cool enough. So, any suggestions?
This Grimlock mace is an easy choice: DW-M13 T-Rex (Black) I'm wondering if this Optimus is 12" or not. The hands look like standard 5mm sockets and thus the weapons grips are probably gonna be essentially non-existant so far as the Freeman hands' ability to grab onto a bare 5mm plug is concerned: FWI-5 Advanced Weapon Collections This wing set is very tempting, too: Leader OP - Jetwing of Darkness Accessory Box Set - Dark Gray (LE 900)
If this mech is 12in tall, then the aforementioned kotobukiya msg/framearms/hexagear/armored core and gundam build arms are ALL going to be way too small. Those kits are all for 1/144 to 1/100 scale models that average about 6in tall. I have a lot of this stuff. It matches up with TT Diaclone reboot very well. But, I suspect not so much for this. Fortunately, these kits are fairly cheap. $5-10 in a lot of cases, from HLJ. So, you could buy a handful and if they don't work out, no big loss.
I have a number of msg and build arms kits that I got for 1/144 kits and they range from perfectly sized to wayyyy too big to be even held up. Koto have a whole line called "giant arms." In particular there will be kits I know for a fact are too big for even the joytoy kit.
They're by a Chinese company Joy Toy, sometimes labeled as a toyline called 'Dark Source'. There is only the Free Man mech for 18th scale (in two colors) but a ton of 18th figures and both mechs and figures in 24th scale: Product Search Page If you like 18th or 24th, you should try one of the more current figures. The earlier ones had some fragility issues with snapping joint pegs but JT have quickly improved quality over time.
I’m going to pick up a figure later this week...some of the aesthetics are really cool. They give-off the old school mecha vibe - especially those with cockpits.
