With guns too you don't know if you really will like it until you get hands on. You can read about a gun all you like but if it feels like trash in your hands you won't like it. It was like that when getting my first. Reading up a lot about how the Beretta Storm is such a nice pistol but in the end a few little things killed it for me and I opted for something else.
This is a scythe my boyfriend made for me. It's a lot bigger then it looks. I'm 5'1 1/2 and this comes to just under my chin.
Another inherited collectible, this one from a different granddad. This is a SpyderCo "Endura" Damascus folder. It's an absolutely beautiful knife.
I'm personally not a fan of shotguns for self defense. The propensity for overpenetration is huge, they are often long and unwieldy if used in a house. I much prefer my short AR for that purpose. Believe it or not, the ballistics are better and are less likely than shottys or even pistol calibers to overpenetrate. Not to mention the limited capacity. Since CNS(Central Nervous System) hits are the only hits that will put a person down for good and quickly, AND those areas are limited on a person(think an index card over your eyes, and a small plate starting from your where your collarbone meets and hangs there. Accuracy and a high number of rounds are important, so standard capacity(not high capacity, most firearms are made with that in mind, "high capacity" is an anti-gun term), is imperative. I'm a firm believer in fire superiority and aggression since you're already behind the powercurve and they have the initiative upon entry. Now to wait on my tax stamp approval so I can put a suppressor on it. I still suggest using electronic ear muffs in the house though, even with a suppressor. Pics up shortly .
I've got this little Barlow knife that belonged to either my great grandfather, or one of my great uncles. I'm not sure who. The blades are actually difficult to open, which might be from rust or dirt. The rust on the blades occured because it was used as a putty knife at some point, and then it went through the laundry after it came into my possession. I really should clean it up one of these days.
Good point! I actually want an SBR for home defense but I might not be able to swing that until next year. I'm looking at getting an AK pistol in 7.62 Russian and slapping a stock onto the guy. Think fake Krinkov and you know what I'm gonna do. That's beautiful. My bro is a big knife fan, he'd love to see that.
Twinsies. I love these old Barlows. Oddly enough, I think I found this one in an old toolbox that I inherited from a friend of the family that lived next to my grandparents for a very long time.
That's cool. I wish mine was in better shape though. Nice! Yours is in a lot better condition though. I'm assuming it wasn't used as a putty knife?
I think more of a general purpose. You can't really tell in the picture, but the blades are really scratched up. I took some WD40 to it after I found it, because it had some trouble opening and closing. As far as the rust on yours goes, try soaking it in some vinegar overnight, then gently scrubbing it with steel wool. You'd be surprised at how clean it comes. If the blade has started to pit under the rust, it will take a little more effort to restore it.
Ok. First up is my short AR pistol. 11.5" BCM upper with an aimpoint T1 on a scalarworks 1.93" mount. Streamlight light with pressure/constant on touchpad on top. I admit for work I'm used to shooting with a 1.57" mount but with my astigmatism it is easier to get the dot on target with my glasses on MUCH easier with the higher mount. Without my glasses on, it is more of a "bloom" than a dot, but I'm still good with it. Loaded are 77gr 5.56 hornady rounds to make up for the lost velocity out of the short barrel. I can still get hits out to 400 yards with it(and the red dot), though. Next up is my Colt midlength upper (16.0 barrel), with a Leupold mk6 1-6x Low Powered Variable Optic(LPVO). It is zeroed for .62 grain 5.56 which is best suited for that optic. It has the same light set up as my shorty and for the moment it has the Leupold mount but I have the same mount on the way for this optic as on my other one for the same height. I like familiarity with manual of arms with my weapons so they are pretty much the same setup, parts, etc all around, including the slings. Having just said what I did about "familiarity of arms" lol, here are the pistols I carry/shoot the most often. My HK P30s and Glock 48. Both have night sites and I have two lights for the P30, one for the bedstand, training classes SF x300, and the SF xcb1 for carry(the smaller light). The P30 is all stock parts, but the Glock 48 has an extended slide release and aftermarket extended magazine release because I have short fingers. I much prefer the paddle release to the button, IMO. And, just to show that I don't completely hate shotguns, here is my mossberg 88. I still need to dig out my knives *facepalm*....
