He has no legs and was more or less a pogo stick with whips. Look how easily he topples over and has a hard time getting back up during his fight with Bee. He lacks stealth and you can hear him coming a mile away with that "poing!" sound and his chains rattling. You have robots with feet and you robots with wheels for feet. Did he choose to be like that or was it something since birth?
If I had to take a guess, I'd say since birth. Because he didn't seem to "change modes" or anything like that when he joined Ravage, Scalpel, Long Haul, Mixmaster and Scrapmetal down to revive Megatron. I'm sure he wasn't "toppling" over, but is probably his fighting style due to probably fighting most of his life in that body.
I didn't really think he was falling over. I thought he was just dodging Bee's kicks. And I'd imagine after spending your whole life in a body like that, it'd become second nature when it comes to maneuverability, just like when a baby first learns yo walk.
Rampage was only inconvenienced in the script. The main thing people are unaware is that realistically Rampage is very big compared to BB. BB would have not wanted to fight Rampage alone if Bay/Co. gave him the proper scale and rage that is Rampage. Also, he's got arms/hands with cannons that can retract, just like BB. Rampage could have easily mutilated Bee with one shot and drilling a hole on his chest. His pogo/stick self is actually not inconvenient...as he could simply leap away from battle or strike towards any autobot as a snake would, in a blink of an eye. Rampage vs BB was one of the most silliest things in ROTF. The Constructicons were planned to be one of the heaviest, strongest & meanest groups from the Decepticon army, but things were changed at last minute. I wonder if time and money was not an issue at the time, they could have had Rampage drill a large hole under the sea floor to retrieve an energon source... to revive Megatron. .
Rampage was obviously designed for a specific environment and purpose. Unfortunately for Rampage neither of them were the desert.
Surely a lot of different plans were considered for the Constructicon army, but due to writers strike, sams hand & time, a lot had to be reconsidered. Trust me, watching the constructicons transform from robot mode to Devastator would have been sweet. (hence Overload/Hightower) Barricade was actually planned to fight BB in ROTF, not rampage.
@Moy - Seeing how Rampage's tread-whips somehow did not hit anything, I can believe that. The Constructicons in general looked like a nasty group to fight against. Mixmaster has a cannon and shields, Scrapper has launching claws, Rampage his whips, Hightower his wrecking ball, etc. etc.. All of them are GINORMOUS, too, and we can't forget about Devastator. I don't recall seeing Rampage falling over. In fact, he was standing just fine while reviving Megatron. He was knocked down by Bumblebee, but no one can stand against a pissed-off Autobot icon selling boat-loads of toys. Darth Vader's breathing betrays his presence, too, yet that doesn't make him "weak" in any regard. Not to mention Rampage can transform.
@Noideaforaname: Rampage not only has whips but big cannons, one on each arm, and could they could have used his bottom half as a dangerous drill machinery. The Devastator we got in the film is not his true character.
Obviously Rampage had no trouble although he had no proper legs to speak of. Maybe in a way, what he had was better than having legs.
As people said before, that's his fighting style. He bounces around, whipping people with his treads. And guns, probably. But I don't remember him falling down... But could he still be alive? You can live without a limb or two. Starscream lost his arm, but didn't die. That's a thing I hated about RoTF. Rampage is like 10 feet taller than Bumblebee, yet Bee still pulls through.
I'm pretty sure he could transform legs out like his toy but i just wish longhaul could of helped rampage AND FINALLY KILL THE ANNOYING BUMBLE TRASH
Oh, no. He had to participate in a boring gun battle. And God knows where Mixmaster was the whole time...
Maybe it was a sacrifice made for the sake of being able to form Devastator... which simply didn't end up working the way he was wishing it would? Well or uhh, maybe it was simple sake of wanting a few characters to NOT resemble humanoids for the sake of being unique/more realistic/all that? I also like the theories involving his design just working for his purpose & whatnot, as an insect would probably feel strange about one of his buddies walking around on 2 legs.
