    Easy answer: No.

His systems were completely frozen/damaged. It took the last bit of energy from his flagging, frozen energy core to desperately burn an imprint of the Allspark's location on the glasses. From there on, he was limited to a vague ability to listen and maybe "see" things around him... and plot his revenge.

Being conscious, and being able to act are two different things. We have to assume that his comm link isn't simply a function of his mind. It's not psychic. It's still a part of his system that needs to be activated, and requires power.

That's my response. But what's sad is that the 3 minutes it took me to think on that and type a response, is probably much longer than the actual scriptwriters spent thinking about such things. ;)

Well I took it that its not all human tech that was derived from Megatron but most of the inter-linking cumputer tech that has been developed since the late 80's that had its roots linked to Megatron

Well its basicly a defencive system and even a new born child is born with its mothers imune system.

That was covered in the movie.

He was moved to Hover dam so that he could not be detectided by others looking for him and no signels or energy signiture coming from him would be reached by others.

The miles of concrete above his head made it impossible for Megatron to ether send or receave any comunication from the other Decepticons.

people still can't accept that certain things in stories are left to the imagination of the viewer and that unless it's in giant text on the screen or yelled by 10 characters it's a plot hole? Nevermind the 50 years of movies and books where robots and computers become self aware all of a sudden and go ape shit for a large number of reasons that don't have to be just because they were inherently evil or something,

Am I right in remembering them saying that everything from transistors to the microchip were derived from Megatron? I mean, obviously humanity should be given some credit for their technology. I think it would seem less preposterous if they'd made it clearer in the movie.

Oh, that part I get. It's just that the ability to spontaneously manifest complex armaments from nothing while still in a newborn state suggests a versatility that is unmatched by the adult Transformers in the movie.

Right, right... I forgot about that part. So yeah... even if Megatron was somewhat conscious and capable of sending distress signals, they would have been muffled by the dam regardless.

Not everything needs to be spelled out. But when implying stuff, it's better if intelligent, plausible answers are what is implied, rather than questionable stupidity. Sometimes you get the impression the authors think everything out, and then leave things unsaid so their audience can figure it out on their own. Other times, you just get the impression that the authors couldn't even be bothered to think it through.

Haha! Okay, right. I guess that works.

No plot hole is too big or two small to be plugged with a bit of fan ingenuity, after all! ;)

Frenzy was communicating with the others just find right under the Allspark.

Then again, yea the scriptwriters didn't care about this anyway.

I forgot about that..........but it could be because Frenzy was designed as a communications bot.

You would expect a bot whos main job or alt mode is a communication device to work almost anywhere.

He may have also had a power boost from the All Spark.

Well, that frenzy thing of communicating in the hoover dam can be explained that the dam only hid the allspark energy and NOT interferred with the communications. Hence, Megatron would be a in a state of a comma patient, which are supposed to be aware of their surroundings but they can't communicate at all, maybe because some human system interferred with his body functions, and since starscream and frenzy helped bring this systems down, he could regain mobility once again.

Or the explanation that sto vo kor gave works as well.

And the whole thing about the sparkling being evil because of the Megatron based human techonlogy is the dumbest thing he writers have come up so far. They need to think things trough and scrap that off.

I guess this thread answers another question for me.

I always thought Megatron's first words being "I AM MEGATRON" were kinda dumb... but maybe he did that because he's been hearing people call him
NBE1 for a century... then he awakes and needs to make clear wtf his name really is LOL...

Would have been better if he said something along the lines of 'how dare you insects keep me captive'.

Nah... I think that degree of character development was deemed unnecessary for the movie. ;)

But seriously... I agree. It needed to feel more like Megatron actually had something to say, rather than like he was introducing himself to the audience.

You may not consider it canon, but the prequel novel covers this perfectly well. Megatron is NOT aware while he was kept frozen. However, this is not the first time he was awakaned, either. His cryogenic systems failed while he was being transported from his original Arctic storage location at a Sector 7 base to the ship that would take him to Hoover Dam.

He awakend partially at that time and made quite a mess of things in his hazy state, though he did not return to full capacity before being iced back down. He was, however, capable enough to notice what was going on, take note of humans, etc. I believe it was also noted or implied that there have been other brief periods when he was thawed enough to become conscious, if not to return his body to functionality.

On another front, Starscream and the rest have been aware of Humans and among them for quite a while, and this is after they undoubtedly studied them from orbit before making their infiltration of the planet. If we go back to the prequel novel, we find they've known humans since the 1960s, when an experimental starship was launched from the same Arctic base mentioned above while the world was busy paying attention to the launch happening at the Kennedy Center (Apollo program, IIRC from the novel).

The crew had the bad luck to trigger the FTL drive and end up far from Earth, in the vicinity where the Autobots and Decepticons happened to have run across one another as well. Both sides got fairly well acquainted with Humans in the process. I see no reason we can't expect the rest of the Decepticons to have done the Cybertronian equivilent of a data-dump to Megatron when he awoke, giving him everything they knew about the world, the inhabitants, and the current situation.
