I didn't think it was neat. It was too techno looking, if that even means anything, and I don't like CG anything... I like cartoons goddamn it.

i thought its production value was top notch but story took a major hit...

transforming vs morphing became an issue too, lol...

well when i first heard about it, i got excited. when i heard it wasn't the same company (who did the cg), i still remained positive. after watching the first episode and the whole, "i am transform" and what not, i just turned it off. i read some synopses on what happened to the other characters on wiki, and i cried. not tears of joy, but tears at how the story became.
on the other hand, the toys were interesting. nothing to really go crazy over though.

It was better than RID, but thats not an endorsement. As a show it wasn`t a great follow on from BW, Transteach would have been much more fitting.

I see what you mean, I just like my bots to be animated. Like G1, Rid, Animated and Armada. I enjoyed the Beast Neo/II series a lot too.

I really liked the first 5 episodes. When ever my friends who are big fans of Beast Wars but haven't seen Beast Machines asks me if its good and I always tell them that.

The first five episodes really had a great feel to the show. The Maximal's from earth are all alone on Cybertron being hunted down by Megatron, and they have to reclaim all the stolen sparks. And to add to the problem, they're missing two comrades and they don't know how to transform.

That was great, but after the first 5 episodes we got the 'Weakest Component', and that's when the show started to decline, characters no longer themselves, shock betrayals that just didn't give the character justice. Rhinox was a great character who should of been brought back, it was an insult that he missed the chance to have a new form in the show, and a chance to really even the tides and play a role.

But yeah i was kinda dissapointed after that episode, and the story telling got really dissapointing when episode after episode our heroes weren't winning at all and the second season was just dragging along a few episodes with no real enemy till half way through the season.

I felt it was a good show that had the misfortune of following (and continuing) a better show.

I think the dislike towards it stems a lot from the fact that it followed Beast Wars, and took an extremely different turn.

For example, BW, despite not being a complete comedy show, had a lot of really funny moments (not just with Waspinator). Yet BM was pretty GRIMDARK in comparison, which didn't really rub well. It wasn't really as fun to watch, since it took itself VERY seriously.

Also, character derailment, really strange aesthetic, etc.

I personally think BM is a good show, only it would have benefited from being a stand alone show rather than having to follow on from BW.

I didn't get a chance to watch it when it was originally aired, but I picked up the entire series a few years ago and slogged through it over the course of a week.

Beast Machines had the darkest and most mature storyline of all the Transformers cartoons, but its action sequences were repetitive (lots of running away) and it lacked the "fun" that made Beast Wars -and indeed most Transformers series- enjoyable.

A major issue for fans of Beast Wars was the different characterisations given to several major characters carried over from Beast Wars.

I enjoyed it up until the very end where Megatron is defeated by falling into a pit. Megatron in Beast Machines turned into a jet by the way.

I have the whole series on DVD and I love it because it explores the Transformers history better than any other series can, including exploring new transformations I have never even seen before. I don't care how bad people think it is, I will love it no matter what people say.

The show is great. The thing that turned BW fans off, though, was the drastic character changes to Optimus, Rattrap, Blackarachnia, etc.

    But overall, a great series.
