I see it last night, and Hawkeye narrating this Mini-Series. Right now they finish up part Part 1 about WWI, Tonight is part 2 about the Beginnings of the WWII.
it was decent, i am unsure of how accurate it is. considering history channel's track record on skewing facts. *or just leaving things out.* but i'll watch the second part. ps apparently MacArthur and Patton single handledly won world war 1? i know they're both badasses. but i didn't realise MacArthur was such a cold badass. apparently he's trying to out do Daniel Craig's cold stares while things are blowing up around him... anyways that's what i got out of the first episode.
It's called World Wars and its relatively accurate to history, that aid they did play up Patton and Macarthur both had notable roles in World war I to be sure but the American operations were but one on a vast front. There spot on about the disaster of Gallipolli costing Churchill his post as First Lord of the admiralty and driving him to enlist on the army and head to the trenches.
did you not watch the same show i did then? they really made it seem like the two of them won the war. and that americans all "knew" war was coming. this thing is so pro american, it's hilarious.
I agree it is, but it is true that after the Lusitania was sunk many American felt the US joining the war was inevitable. Yeah its needs to dial back the pro american a bit. true enough but , i agree its not true they dd their part to be sure but it was a team effort in the west. Also the actor the cast to play Hitler is an awesome fit.
no i meant, the war with Hitler. lol they seem to make it seem that MacArthur, Patton, and Churchhill, all knew it was coming. although i do see Patton pushing for war. but the others? not really. i enjoy the world war II in color show most out of all the world war documentaries. they seem to be more about showing everything objectively. from all sides. and they're using actual footage. rather then this dramatized version. yea, i don't by that MacArthur and a small band of troops just walked across "no-man's" land. and actually got there, alive. not one bit. even if someone tries to tell me it really happened. i still won't believe it.
Winston Churchill Biography Though not at first seeing the threat that Adolph Hitler posed when he rose to power in 1933, Churchill gradually became a leading advocate for British rearmament. By 1938, as Germany began controlling its neighbors, Churchill had become a staunch critic of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement toward the Nazis. On September 3, 1939, the day that Britain declared war on Germany, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty and a member of the War Cabinet, and by April, 1940, he became chairman of the Military Coordinating Committee. Later that month, Germany invaded and occupied Norway, which was a setback for Neville Chamberlain, who had resisted Churchill's proposal that Britain pre-empt German aggression by unilaterally occupying vital Norwegian iron mines and sea ports. In May, debate in Parliament on the Norwegian crisis led to a vote of no confidence toward Prime Minister Chamberlain. On May 10, King George VI appointed Churchill as prime minister and Minister of Defense. Churchill Quotes "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor and you will have war." 1938, after Prime Minister Chamberlain signed an agreement with Hitler So, yes, Churchill did see the storm on the horizon. The fact of the matter is Germany was not supposed to rearm. After a while, people started to catch on, y'know?
What Wolfguard said, Churchill knew trying to appease Hitler was going to fail. The British and French threw Czechoslovakia under the bus for nothing. MacArthur foresaw war with Japan was going to happen, Japan's imperial designs were going to cause them to attack the Philippines sooner or later. Patton could see what many did but seldom spoke before Pearl Harbor the US would end up going to war in Europe.
