I just picked up Siege Optimus Prime and now I find myself at an annoying crossroads. I generally don't like to have two or more figures of the same character in my collection, and grabbed Optimus thinking I'd compare him to my classics Voyager and only keep the one I preferred. However with them in hand, they are both so good that I don't know what to do. I blame Hasbro for putting me in the untenable situation of having to choose or break my established rule.
Hiya! I'm a photographer on Instagram(@Cybertronagraphy)
I really love this guy, I was skeptical of him at first but he looked so much better in hand.
Magnus is good - but IMO Shockwave is the superior figure
Jokes aside, in the IDW comic, Hotrod listens to Prime and transforms to a car, throwing Megs off balance and drives out of the way.
...but Astrotrain and Shockwave break up the party and save Megs.
(Maybe you knew that, but I don't assume.)
I wasn't going to get Megatronis... now I want to. Great shots.
Just picked up Siege Ultra Magnus from a local Target this afternoon. One of the staff was kind enough to go out in back and find him for me. I had Shockwave in my hands as well, but I decided not to get him, couldn't bring myself to get him. He looked small and busy in the package, from what I want out of Shockwave. The copy I saw did not have good paint/ detail applied to it. For the price, I just could not buy it. I was surprised I did not like it more.
Had to choose berween UM and Shockwave for now.. picked UM, since I'm not a huge fan of Shockwave's armored mode.
Magnus is great in all his modes. The armor parts look good, and fit well without hindering articulation.
He also scales perfectly with the rest of the Siege bots, in both modes. I really appreciate that, since I'm always a tinge disappointed when scale is off (like Studio series Prime, or Potp Prime to a lesser extent).
The cab is neat in robot mode. Very different from Prime, and looks more cybertronian, and less g1. He could have used some chrome stacks, and a bit more paint apps or tampos.
The cab's alt mode is a bit of a mess in the back. The exposed arms suck. At first, I was iffy on the front wheel wells being so big, but in person I dont mind it.
To hide the hands, I prefer adding armor, something I got from someome in this thread IIRC.
The full truck mode is awesome. Neat transformation, too.
That’s exactly how I felt with both in hand. I’m hoping for a good sale eventually, as I think I’d kick myself for not getting Shocky eventually, but I was certainly put off by the first impression. Which was the opposite of my reaction to Magnus; I haven’t been impressed by online pics, but he’s a lot of fun in hand.
You know, I was curious about how the Prime Magnus's hammer/Forge would look with this Magnus and this gave me a preview. It's a pretty nice look. Magnus's smaller size keeps it from looking dinky.
Magnus got jealous and wanted his own sled to cruise on. Cog was worth the sacrifice in his eyes.
I just got Megatron, anyone else's copy have a really undefined face sculpt? The lip sculpt is super soft. It reminds me of PotP Jazz.
I'm really glad I got this guy last (other than the leaders, whom I hope to find soon). Every other deluxe and voyager has been incredibly solid. They have been some of the best official products I've handled in years. Megatron feels completely different though. His posability looks stiff and unnatural, his ankles are floppy, his arms don't peg together well in alt mode, and his front treads don't tab together correctly in either mode.
Its amazing that a toyline that has a figure as amazing as Siege Optimus also has a figure like Megatron who feels like it was produced by a completely different group of designers.
For what it's worth, For Max probably has dozens more Gaskets & Grommets.
Just picked up Optimus and Sideswipe yesterday, and man am I a happy Toy-geek!! These are hands down the coolest versions of these characters that I've ever owned in the general CHUG scale of figures. Actually, on that note...anyone else feeling like their CHUG characters are obsolete, lol? Pretty much every other version of Sideswipe and Optimus since Classics are to me now.
BTW, does anyone know how long this WFC gimmick is going for? Because I really hope Hasbro can make as many classic characters as possible in the series!
I made a whole thread about it, bud.
GENERATIONS Discussion: Are Pre-Siege Figures Not Good Enough Now?
I know what you mean.
About the ankles, I found that Megatrons left foot (our right when playing with him) locks in easily, but the other flops around until you lift up the plastic on his shin so that the ankle will snap back into place.
I love the look of the bot mode and he poses well (see my picture earlier), but he has a lot of flaws. The ankles, like you mentioned, a weak tank mode, worse wrists than Delux Hound and Sideswipe, an unfun wonky leg transformation serise of thigh rotations, and so on.
...and he is still the best CHUG Megatron in my opinion. He is the only one I have actually spent my money on. I will enjoy this flawed toy for years to come while wishing it were better.
I am really disappinted that he cannot hold Legends class Shockwave in gun mode, at least not withput altering Shockwave or grinding down Meg's hands.
My boy upped the ante again!
How did he get the sled? Well. He swiped it, obviously.
Anyone got the exact measurements of how tall Magnus is with armor and Shockwave is without?
Separate names with a comma.
