Nice. I didn't like Siege Ironhide's alt-form originally, mainly thinking it looked cracky and incomplete, so I avoided it and ordered the ER version instead.*

I've always thought the Siege robot mode worked well however and the vehicle has really grown on me. I now rather like it.

I was able to order his mold brother Crosshairs from BBTS. Should be arriving soon. I'm glad to get this mold after all.

*I seem to remember thinking the Siege version it lacked a roof, which is amusing when you consider the ER version with his Roman legionnaire style 'shield'. Credit where it's due, it does work, and the slide out missile launchers are cool.

 

I have seen alot of pics of ER Ironhide, but being an amazon exclusive and being so similar to Siege Ironhide, I couldn't justify getting him. If he had been the only Ironhide we had gotten, sure. I felt the same way about most of the ER retools, not different enough to justify a purchase.

Aside from the leg panels, Ironhide is an awesome deluxe, with all the articulations we've come to expect and love. The weapon is a bit odd (it's too short to have him hold it with both hands in hammer mode without it looking awkward), but decked out with some movie-esque arm cannons he is like the Ultimate Ironhide. I almost wanna get the black version if it's on sale to have a Movie recolored G1 Ironhide.

I can understand that. As mentioned above I ordered Crosshairs recently and it arrived today, so now I have a figure in both Ironhide’s Siege and Earthrise molds. For much the same reason as you, I’m glad that one of them is a different character with minor retooling (basically a different head). I found Siege Ironhide quite hard to find at the right price, now, anyway, but getting Crosshairs is preferable.

I’ve yet to convert him, but I’m really liking Crosshairs. Leg panels don’t bother me. I really like his weapon too. It is kinda odd, though, I agree. I think maybe the post/handle for the missile launcher mode should have been situated further back as it means he has to hold it with a straight arm in that mode. I think maybe the designers wanted to go with a bazooka style arrangement, rather than a gun, but having the post so near the front of the weapon is a little odd. That’s mainly a nitpick though. I love the dual nature of the weapon, missile launcher to war-hammer.

Speaking of movie style arm weapons, I actually did that with ER Ironhide. Someone on here (apologies, I forget who, but after your mention of those weapons, I wonder if it was you) suggested I get RID Sergeant Kup second hand for his Gatling gun weapons. I did just that, and they work a treat. I wouldn’t normally buy an entire figure just for the weapons, but as I got it second hand, and considering the price of third party weapons, largely imported from abroad, I don’t think it works out too bad. Plus I got another figure with them. This Kup isn’t great (Kingdom Kup is my idea of Kup) but the RID version has an interesting transformation and the robot mode has some character. Alt mode is good. Only thing... now he has no weapons.  

Coincidentally, I was fiddling with Jetfire just last night, and this was after months standing on my desk in his Skyfire configuration. (I.e. robot without the extra armour and just his double barrel gun.) I love that look, but decided to deck him out with his armour and missiles again for a change. He seems like a whole other character like that! Also attached the third party arm sword I got for him ages ago. Yeah, he’s a great figure.


Edit- Now transformed. Mostly a simple pleasant process, but a bit fiddly at the end.

Van mode is nice, but a bit unfinished with the exposed upper arms on top. As this isn’t an Earth vehicle I think that’s somewhat forgivable, but it does look like extra panels between the shoulders and forearms would have solved this. But then you have extra panels to fold on the side or back of the arms in robot mode... but I think with an extra hinge it could have flattened down okay. I like the siege Optimus style Gatling guns at the front. I’m not usually keen on storing weapons on top of the vehicle but the rocket launcher really works here. I think it might have looked out of place on the ER Ironhide roof, but on a Cybertronian battle-waggon, it’s cool.

The feet on the back look okay on this mold, like a pair of rocket-boosters on a sci-if vehicle. Not so much the ER versions, although it doesn’t bother me that much.

I won’t take pictures at this time as there’s plenty on this thread that look much better than I’d be able to take. I’ll likely take it later in an idea I have for a group shot.
