    Various 3p kits:

Astrotrain blaster (MW kits have known issues with pegs and ports that don't fit, so buyer beware, unless they actually have fixed it by now):
Matrix Workshop M23 M-23 for WFC Siege Astrotrain Weapon Set Upgrade Kit

May just be the stock photos but the color doesn't seem to match.

    Refraktor gap fillers (3 sets):
Shockwave Lab SL-GF4 Gap filler for POTP Siege Refractor Upgrade Kit

Comes unpainted so may not match exactly. Back of thighs only.

    Sideswipe gap fillers:
Shockwave Lab SL-GF1 Gap filler for Siege Sideswipe Upgrade Kit

Also comes unpainted and may not match exactly. Back of thighs only.

Some bits are too loose. Some joints too tight. Need to trim some plastic. But he was cheap and looks badass!

I didn't give Astrotrain enough credit. He's a hefty bit of chonk and well made. In person, the hollow shuttle pieces aren't nearly as bad as pictures/videos would have you believe. They're there, they're noticeable, but they're not as awful in person. I'm sure some kind of a filler kit could come along, but as-is, he's pretty doggone alright.

The coal tender/backpack is a neat gimmick add-on, but ultimately a waste. He does look incomplete in train mode without it, though.

The guy is having fun, but I will have to say that I tend to skip over them but I was planning to offer a PM discussion with this member.

Doc, I can't say that I've followed your progress, but if you are open to some pointers, the first thing that you absolutely need to fix is the "shadow" thing you do. It doesn't look right at all, it's like a black smudge that overlaps the whole lower part of the robot/alt and why I've been skipping over your images as it's just too harsh for me (a bit of OCD on my part).

    What software are you using?

You need to practice matching the softness and balance the illumination with your backgrounds more.

If you're having too much trouble with that, then possible practice on using overlay filters that can merge the two images together better.

Here's some guidance/decent videos that explains some basic principles.

This site is a wonderful guide for a lot of techniques, easy to follow.
3 Ways To Blend Two Images Together In Photoshop

I found this one quickly that also is a good example

    And for shadows

Consider that sometimes less is also better

Now these tutorials are with Photoshop, which I don't use, but the same type of affect can be obtained as almost all graphic software as very similar tools.

I JUST got Astrotrain today and just opened and transformed him for the first time.

As you said, he is a LOT heftier than how he looks in images/video, I'm quite surprised about that.

With the weapons on the back section, the "bad" part of the shuttle is barely an issue. The box in landing pad mode is interesting, BUT the issue of it not opening flush is a drag.

In train mode, I love it, it's a solid alt mode, and the box is great as a container that fits perfectly, BUT, of course, there's one issue... it's like it's missing wheels in the back of it, something that I'm surprise that no one mentions this in the few reviews I've watched.

Robot mode, looks great, BUT the arms don't lock? I'm going to have to recheck some reviews but that's a big annoyance.

All that said, I'm happy to have him as one of the last Siege figures (now I need to get Spinister).

I am quite happy for the 20% sale on him today as it brought the price closer to what these figures should be at... (and wish that I had paid similar for the others that I paid full price on).

    Toys R Us.

And AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. I just figured it out, why the box section doesn't roll well.. it's missing the back wide "wheel" on the box.

Crap.. double crap.. I have to return and get/find another now.

So is Apeface worth 23 bucks? I’ve seen mixed reviews, with some on the really good side, and some on the really bad.

I'm assuming you mean his shoulder? The purple panel that attaches the arm to the torso? It does. You have to keep pushing past the point of comfort. It'll go.

Be careful with the peg on the shield. It's painted, translucent plastic. People recommend 1000 grit sandpaper to whittle it down some and smooth it out. Once done, should fit snug without breaking. Aside from that? Solid. Literally. The complaints came mainly from tthe!m not transforming him properly and making sure he was fully tabbed. Plus, he's kind of short as Voyagers go. (Roughly Soundwave height.) He really is a good figure and we'll worth it at $23.

    Amazon has a return policy so there is literally no risk. In my expert opinion, it's a GREAT figure. 20191127_235027.jpg 20191118_141541.jpg 20191118_134434.jpg 20191116_153536.jpg IMG_20191106_032535_621.jpg IMG_20191106_032535_631.jpg IMG_20191106_032535_626.jpg unlockable-1.jpg 20191106_010616.jpg 20191106_005438.jpg 20191106_002055.jpg 20191106_001404.jpg 20191106_001325.jpg 20191105_235640.jpg 20191105_235249.jpg 20191105_234458.jpg 20191105_233659.jpg 20191105_233148.jpg 20191105_232821.jpg 20191105_232111.jpg 20191105_230819.jpg 20191105_230259.jpg

“It’s the Smokescreen effect!” Pretty good, huh?! Eh, eh, eh........Thank you, I’m here thru the weekend. Be sure to tip your moderator.

Apeface is highly recommended! Definitely worth $23.
