That’s kind of irrelevant for one simple reason. Warden said that they would be reusing prime wars gimmicks where appropriate moving forward. It was appropriate for greenlight and lancer to finish orthia and prime wars gimmicks were appropriate for apeface, snapdragon and scorponok (and evening added to jetfire). This shows an intent to maintain those play patterns.

With the ways things are going in the world these days with COVID19, does anyone think we will see anything beyond wave 2 or 3 these year?

What does the gimmick itself have to do with resetting the bar on scale, likeness, continuity, etc? That sounds like you're arguing against something completely different than what what I was initially trying to make a point about.

Not anyone's first priority, and if it is you are lucky, but yeah I have been disappointed thinking how my hobby is gonna be affected. This sucks!! Stores are still open, Hasbro's CEO is positive, manufacturing is back and trucks still running.....so I think we see stuff, but the economy is going to be jacked for a while.

Banzaitron would be pretty rad, yeah. A Boat Banzaiton would be even more rad. A+ to @Iruini for that idea.

it matters because the senior design manager himself said that they would reuse the engineering for gimmicks from the prime wars where appropriate (including combiners) which is at odds with his dedication to scale accuracy. one of a few options would happen for combiners.
    1. maintain the already established engineering from combiner wars and throw combined mode scale out the window
    2. spend r&d developing new engineering for larger combiners, throwing individual bot mode scale out the window
    3. largely ignore combiners since most of them were done during combiner wars and power of the primes

of those options 1 and 3 are the most likely

The action master guys usually end up as remolds though. Not that I'd be against an Action master character getting an actual original design, it would just be rather unprecedented.

Once you pass Dinoking there it's a real stretch, even for Selects IMO.

No, it doesn't matter. All it means in regard to my point is that the gimmicks will merely be used when Hasbro makes the more G1 accurate Superion, Menasor, etc.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that we were necessarily talking about an original design here.

In Earthrise, figures are gettiing more and more unique. There are 4 Deluxe carformers with a roof chest and hood feet, and barely any tooling is shared between them. When combiners are reintroduced in the Generations line, they'll probably be far from Combiner Wars, PotP and even TT Selects in terms of tooling sharing.

So Slingshot & Fireflight were the same mold in G1? Dead End & Wildrider?

Drag Strip only had 4 wheels? Skydive had a sloped head? Motormaster was just a cab, rather than a full 18-wheeler?

Even regarding Takara versions, they weren't even close to G1 accurate. Their likenesses for both their bot and alt modes are way off. And don't even get me started on their combiner modes. Their flaws ultimately reside in the molds. Combiner Wars was repaint hell with each mold maybe having one or two aspects of each character represented with their respective molds, if they were lucky. They were far too compromised to accurately resemble their original appearances. Being generous, they could pass as "G1 but modern"(like most pre-WFC Generations figures), but barely, if you could ignore their original likenesses. Which is fine, as they weren't prominent characters. But I gotta disagree when you say that they're G1 accurate. And they're definitely not up to the standards introduced in the WFCT.

I thought you were, given you mentioned a boat. When I said "Original design" I meant a new original toy mold engineered specifically for an Action master character, not like an original character design overall. Maybe that's the misunderstanding?
