Yeah, that sounds about right. I remember it was around $15-16.

I actually don't have that Megatron. I used to have the original green version of it, but I've got no idea where that's at currently.

Spada Reviews War for Cybertron Megatron

Megatron comes packaged in robot mode but vehicle mode is where this review will start. The alt mode is obviously supposed to be Cybertronian tank but it is more of a mobile cannon. Which makes sense if one were to examine the evolution of Megatron. In the G1 cartoon he was a gun, then in the movie he was upgraded to a slightly mobile cannon. This WfC figure is noting more than an evolution of that design and considering WfC is supposed to take place before G1 it makes sense.

Color wise it is rather drab. Black and gray, with hints of dark energon purple, make this alt mode more depressing rather than menacing. But the cannon itself makes up for it with nice red highlights. The red also draws the eye to figure's massive equipment in such as way as to say that he is ready to mess some bots up.

If there are any negatives in the tank mode they have to be (1) the size just feels off and (2) the treads. To the first point, the alt mode w/o the cannon just feel, empty, small and useless. This is one of those cases where if you loose that ONE important piece, the figure is ruined. To the second point, the treads need some improvement.

The first major issue is that the treads in this mode is that they don't peg in anywhere and have a bad tendency to flop around whenever the figure is moved. Not only that but the weight of the cannon makes the whole tank mode front-heavy. Combine that with the loose treads and here is a figure with a tendency to point towards the ground most of the time. It is extremely aggravating having to constantly reposition the treads. Also parts of the robots hands are clearly visible in the treads themselves. But that is not an issue when you fold the treads under the figure to make it's 'hover mode'. The 'hove mode', while accurate is nothing more than a flying cannon. There's nothing wrong with it but it's nothing special ether.

The transformation to robot mode is disturbingly easy. With about ten steps it is nothing compared to the mad-man's origami that is WfC Bumblebee. Nor is it anywhere near WfC Optimus Prime's complexity either. The figure simply unfolds into robot mode and then you may place the cannon on which ever arm you choose. A nice touch.

Robot mode is what this figure is all about but there are a few negatives. This particular figure has some floppiness issues in the arms and chest plate and the cannon (which is almost as tall as the figure itself) is so heavy that Megs has some issues holding it up. The other negative is the coloring. Not dark enough to be menacing but not light enough for fanboys to start ranting, it's rather drab. The extra red and dark energon highlights do break up the boredom nicely but it just needs something more dynamic. But the same could be said for the prime figure which is mostly red.

Putting those negatives aside the robot mode is nice. There is no mistaking the head for anyone but Megatron and the rest of the figure has a nice quality feel to it. Posability is great with out the cannon but with it the figure is a tad limited do to it's massive size. Even with that limitation it is possible to pull of some dynamic poses.

All said this figure is worthy of the name Megatron. The alt-mode may be a bit odd but the robot mode more than makes up for it. Fans should purchase this figure if for no other reason than to be able to have the two great leaders square off against one another on the same shelf.

You got screwed here, man, I'm sorry. Mine rocks the cannon-blasting pose harder than any other figure I've ever seen.

So I'm a bit late, he's hardly brand new but I've never really been bothered about doing reviews on toys that have been reviewed time and time before. I might find something new, I might make you laugh, I might annoy you to the point of a heart attack.

    In any case, enjoy!
