You know, I get that with piracy being commonplace, most game developers opt for downloadable content for their games. Like Dragon Age's Shale character and items and extra quests.

But making several extra contents that are mutually exclusive? I mean, surely no-one will pre-order 3 copies of the game from 3 different places so that they can play with Shockwave, Demolishor AND Jazz. Also the developers are kindly forgetting that about 70% of their market lives in countries where there is no Best Buy or any of the other stores where we could buy the game.

That said, I will buy the game when it's released in Hungary, and won't have an ounce of regret when I will download the extra characters from the web, because what they are doing is downright unfair, IMHO.

 

hm... I'd really like Demolisher but i think if i have to pick one right now i'd have to go with Shockwave

This is exactly what it's all about. The individual stores are the ones requesting pre-order incentives, and this what is causing the Activision to release these codes to them so people can access the characters. It's nothing more than a cheat code, that everyones game will have.

An "unlock code" is exactly that... it unlocks something on the disc for early use. If it was "exclusive DLC," yeah, most likely it would not be on the disk, as it would have to be downloaded to the hard drive. I think everyone will be okay in due time. I could guess that once you run into certain characters in the story mode, be it cameos, or playable characters, they will be unlocked for use in multiplayer or single player, most likely.

I don't know what annoys me more that they seem to think this is a good idea at all or that they don't make the offer with the PC version of the game.....
The whole thing really puts me off buying the game at all.

 

After how the PC version of ROTF game was treated, it dosen't suprise me at all. As far as I'm concerned, I won't have anything to do with the PC version.

 

Are all these going to be availible eventually as DLC?

So they didn't forget, they're targeting their most profitable market. Which happens to be the US.

 

I'm still waiting for some off the wall exclusives like Demolishor. Let's see Nightbeat, Lockdown, or Bludgeon.

Nice, the animation for Jazz's transformation looks boss but I'd like to see some pics of his alt mode, especially the front.

I woulda thought Jazz woulda been part of the normal lineup of playables.  

 

He should have been. That was a pretty bad decision on their part.

 

I already preordered for shockwave. Do they expect you to buy 10 copies of the game at every store just so you can get all the exclusive characters? I'm fine with shockwave.

 

Rad. There was a zero percent chance I was going to buy this game at Best Buy until I saw this... and right up until I see a Prowl or Wheeljack exclusive. With the various exclusive characters we've seen, I presume we will be able to buy these and others from the online (insert game system of choice here) store before too long. Also rad.

 

No way this will stay "exclusive". Johnson was the only ingame preorder reward in ODST. It's never going to happen that each store has its own exclusive character, especially when some of them are pretty major characters. These will surely be DLC in the future.

 

i'm pretty sure this is only unlocking them for the multiplayer mode and has nothing to do with their involvement in the main story/mission mode.
