Not necessarily. Studio Series and Siege have proven there's room to do differing heights within a size class.

@butz Say what you will about the IDW Universe, but at least they treated the Beast Wars characters as contemporaries of the G1 characters. This is important, as it helps remove the divide between the two franchises going forward. A character like Tarantulas, for example, should be able to turn up in any line, not just one about Beast Wars. That would be an exciting future.

I see what you're saying, but I've always viewed it as one franchise.
Anyways, my main concern here is figure scale. Particularly amongst characters from the same series- like from one Beast Wars character to another.

True, but certain characters in Beast Wars are legitimately tiny. Tigatron is like twice Blackarachnia's size easily.

With the size classes we currently have, my ideal line-up would look like this:

    Deluxe Cheetor
    Deluxe Rattrap
    Deluxe Tigatron
    Deluxe Airazor
    Deluxe Waspinator
    Deluxe Terrorsaur
    Deluxe Tarantulas
    Deluxe Scorponok
    Deluxe Blackarachnia
    Deluxe TM Cheetor
    Deluxe TM Rattrap
    Deluxe TM Tarantulas
    Deluxe TM Ravage
    Deluxe FZ Silverbolt
    Deluxe FZ Quickstrike
    Deluxe TM2 Cheetor
    Deluxe TM2 Blackarachnia
    Voyager Optimus Primal
    Voyager Rhinox
    Voyager Dinobot
    Voyager Megatron
    Voyager Inferno
    Voyager TM Optimus Primal
    Voyager TM Megatron
    Voyager TM2 Dinobot
    Leader TM Depth Charge
    Leader TM Rampage
    Leader TM2 Tigerhawk
    Leader TM2 Megatron
    Commander TM Optimal Optimus

Okay. Cool. But that doesn’t sound like WFC3.

That sounds like another line or the line after WFC3.

WFC3 is pretty likely going to be picking up characters Siege and Earthrise couldn’t fit in and, I think, will have TFTM elements because it’s their anniversary too.

I think assuming that Warden saying 2021 would have some things that make BW fans happy is a big jump from WFC3 being all BW.

WFC3 could end in November and give way to a BW line or run alongside some BW figures.

The hope of BW doesn’t rest on BW being the entirety of WFC3.

I think it’d be a nice full circle thing to WFC: Siege starting with a focus on scale and pre-earth modes to end with BW in media scale pre-beast modes. With BW being teased as the next thing.

Primal as a 3 wheeled race car, Refraktor height. Megatron as a Doubledealer retool.

    Start pre-earth, end pre-earth.

And the next line gets to pick up with the Axalon crash and the stasis pods.

I might shuffle a few of those around and make use of more deluxes instead. Season one Primal was relatively small, despite being in command. Unless he came with a lot of accessories, I don't see why he should be a higher price point than Tigatron.

It's just a list of characters and potential sizes. No relation to WFC3 specifically.

If we're talking WFC3, I just need the 11 S1 characters currently missing.

Faction leaders should come in pairs, thus Voyager Megatron and Primal.

If you're looking for 100% accuracy to show scale, but the MPs. A Generations line has some wiggle room.

I disagree. The initial asymmetry in size between Primal and Megatron was something that I really enjoyed about the show. Never been a fan of this insistence that commander characters always need to be of equal size. It seems formulaic and small-minded. It should be the quality of the individual, not whether they meet the height requirement for the job.
Doesn't need to be 100%, but no reason it should be limited to MPs.

While I agree in terms of the show, toy lines have a formula, however.

The "leader" pairings of the Beast Wars toy lines adhered to it:
    Basic Optimus Primal and Megatron
    Ultra Optimus Primal and Megatron
Mega TM Optimus Primal and Megatron
Ultra TM Depth Charge and Rampage
    Ultra TM2 Tigerhawk and Megatron

And it's being adhered to right to today.

    -Edit-

Even the Deluxe 10th Anniversary/Cybertron molds were produced as a pair.

They do tend to stick with that, but there have been a few cases where they've deviated. For example, Tigerhawk may have been paired in price point with Megatron, but the larger Optimal Optimus would've still been the opposing faction commander. With the emphasis on show-scale so far in WFC, I would hope this would be another of those times. That, and it's my ideal scenario for a BW update more so than what I think they'll actually do.

I would say this backs up my point pretty well. In terms of mass, Tigatron look way bigger than Blackarachnia.

Optimal Optimus is a Transmetals figure. Dragon Megatron is a Transmetal 2. Different lines, so no, they're not the opposing faction leaders in their particular lines.

No, it doesn't. Your original comment was in direct response to a post relating to height, not mass.

Sure the original comment was about height, but I used the term "size". Size and height are not synonyms. I know what I was trying to say.

That's beside the point anyways. I don't think I've ever seen two deluxes with quite as much size difference as I see between Blackarachnia and Tigatron on that chart. And on top of that, most legends figures are more than half the height of most deluxes.

    Sure mate.

But again, if you want screen accurate scale, buy the MPs. For a Generations line, it's only a guideline.

If I wanted to have to wait years on end for a collection of overpriced and cartoonishly blocky figures, I'd get MPs. Scale is in the eye of the beholder, but there's no reason both generations and MP can't strive for accuracy.

True, but given the recent more serious approach to scale, I think one size class difference between Primal and Megatron is a concrete possibility.

Indeed they can, and Siege demonstrated that. Ironhide is larger than Sideswipe, yet both are Deluxe figures. I'm all for continuing that approach.

If we're talking Primal specifically, I don't want Hasbro to have to try to cram shoulder cannons, wrist blasters and two swords into a Deluxe. They're more likely to start cutting features. Make him a Voyager and there's plenty of scope for these, plus he matches a Voyager Megatron.

In terms of BW toys, whenever the two leaders were released in the same line, they were always the same size.

It's still only a guideline. The relative scale is approximate, not exact.

I was joking. I'm not a fan of cell shaded figures in general :p
