Barricade and Blackout rose to prominence because of the movies, but were G1 characters originally, except they were Micromasters were much different alt-modes.
Barricade was a Formula 1 car, and Blackout was half of a B-1 Bomber.

 

Idk if anybodies brought this up or not, but has anybody talked about how the pictures of the new Leader Prime might lend some credit to the fact that we might actually get Cybertron Defense Hot Shot out of Hound, as shown on the boxart?

 

thats like saying bulkhead originated in energon as a springer look a like with master roshi's personality. just because the names are the same doesnt make it the same character.

 

Exactly. Humans share names all the time. Why not Transformers? There could be a helicopter Bulkhead existing alongside a truck Bulkhead. Hell, Siege could even establish police car Barricade as a separate character from Micromaster race car Barricade, if HasTak chooses for both of them to be in the line.

 

I just hope Barricade has a different head than Prowl's.

 

I'm well aware that of that fact (Energon Bulkhead was actually a version of Springer in Japan)
But that's an interesting theory, that transformers share names. I believe IDW briefly touched on that at one point.

HasTak may be lazy at times, but they're not that lazy.

 

Idw had two tankors (octane and beast machines tankor) and I’m sure there’s a few others throughout the franchise. I believe in marvel swoop had a different name at one point too

 

Yes this, how many John's or Mike's do you know? Always found it odd in this fandom why people have issues with characters sharing names.

 

Unless the original is dead, then yeah i dont see an issue with a character sharing a name, but these are fictitious characters, that are robots that can live millions of years, so, depending on your POV there are either enough names to go around since there arent that many Cybertronians (compared to humans) or it's just lazy writing that you cant come up with an original name for a robot.

 

or ya know, some just share a name. hell the g1 continuity has two bots named optimus (prime and primal), 2 bots named megatron, 2 bots named galvatron and 2 bots named starscream, 2 named prowl that we know exist simultaneously (g1/bw lion and bw tm2 owl), 2 silverbolts that coexist (g1/bw eagle and bw fuzor), 2 quick strikes (bw and bm), 2 buzzsaws (g1 and bw/bm), 2 laserbeaks (g1 and bw). theres plenty examples of multiple distinct characters sharing names within a single continuity including when both are alive

 

I thought about the incredible minor character of Dent, who appeared during the Pharma story arc.
But Tankor is by far the greatest example.

I believe you're thinking of when Swoop was in the planning stages, where they planned to refer to him as Divebomb.

Well it's the WFC Trilogy, that should answer that, it will likely end with them going to Earth, from what we have been told, Cybertron modes are a big part of the line etc

 

i dont want to get into a whole thing, but those are examples of alternate versions of the same character. I dont think that was what the conversation was about.
If you have truck Optimus Prime who then meets scooter Optimus Prime, that's just lazy writing.
