That is right. Why did the best model paint we find get discontinued? I was working for a company called Auto Color here in Ga so I did a lot of training for paints. I got to met a lot of big guys from Valspar, DuPont, PPG, S.E.M., and so one. Well, Valspar signed a contract with Wal-Mart to start making model paint. With suck huge numbers Valspar could do such a thing. Well, what happened to models at Wal-Mart about 2 years ago? GONE!!! So in turn, Valspar lost the quantity. That is why the best paint is no longer made. Kinda sucks huh!
you know, come to think of it, I got some HOK aerosol cans for clearance prices at walmart a few years ago, they were like .25 cents a can... What a shame. I am stocking up though, I bought the 37 bottle lot...3 times now lol.
HAHAH!!! I am stocking up as well. But I am also taking A LOT down to D.R. with me because finding paint there is no easy task!!!
That's understandable but still major suckage. I remember seeing them a long while back at walmart and scoffed at them, I guess I though cause it was exclusive to walmart that it couldn't really be that good. Boy was I wrong. I am stocking up as well, almost three full sets of paint now. LOL
I heard about them and saw them for years at Wal-Mart and thought they must be better than Testors, but never gave 'em a shot or tried 'em. Back in the fall of '07 (or whenever it was Wal-Mart decided to drop hobby paints), I remember seeing tons of the stuff (mostly the small spray paint cans of it) for cheap. I kept thinking, I'll drop back in and get some before they're gone or before they stop selling it. Never made it back and missed 'em. I'd always heard good things about them though, even before diving into the hobby. Kinda wish I picked 'em up now, but I can't complain. I like the paints I use for the customs I do.
So this is, or was.., a walmart brand? I wonder if my walmart still has any of this stuff.. Lol, when I read your title ecline I thought you were talking about the house of color kustom kolor stuff. My nearest hobby town usa used to carry hoc kk, and no longer go bc it was discontinued, was hoping I was gonna get my answer to why.. Oh well.. Edit: or is valspar and HOC the same company??
Valspar bought HOK back in 2005 or something. It was not just a Wal-mart exclusive, they just had a contract with wal-mart which gave them the volume to make the stuff. It was also sold at hobby shops.
Because its a slowing hobby accourding to a small ma n pop hobby shop owner I used to talk with before I moved home. The guy sold half his shop space a few years back because of it.
