You know, I'm kind of impressed that, even when folks have said they haven't liked a particular deco, I've not yet seen anyone pull out the line "these were unproduced for a reason" (if someone *has*, please don't point me to the quote. Leave me in my delusions, please).

I can only imagine the general poor sales of G2 kept them from coming out. Or maybe it was more the shift to "new" toys rather than G1 redecoes? Combo?

but that's exactly why these are a subline exclusives, not a regular retail release. You wouldn't want an entire wave of ONLY this on the shelves. This kind of thing is meant for collectors and more niche audiences.

This goes all the way back to when they demanded the lion's share of exclusive promo materials and advertising for DOTM.

The manufacturers need Walmart, not the other way around.

FOMO was a big thing with Botcon exclusives while that was still a thing. Especially because most toys were of obscure or second-stringer characters who'd never have seen the light of day otherwise (remember the rage over G2 Sideswipe and Alpha Trion being con exclusives? Good times).

So yeah...just three G2 figures and 2 retro reissues.

With minimal fanfare and just kinda popping up on Walmart and Hasbro Pulse.

I'm kinda thinking despite wanting exclusive distribution rights to the line, Walmart doesn't have too much faith in it. Which begs the question as to WHY they agreed to carry it to begin with.

Probably a discussion better left for another thread, but it's well-documented that G2 didn't perform as well as Hasbro wanted (I'll avoid the language of "poor sales" and leave that as arbitrary as I can), and was thus cut short (with several projects fully intended for release, whether or not THESE decos ever were) in favor of the radical new direction that became "Beast Wars."

Heck, BotCon G2 Sideswipe wasn't even a regular exclusive, but a custom class toy (whether you count that or not, it cannot be ignored that it's a rather different kind of thing, and certainly even more rare).

Let's hope so, because I want the pre-order, but I need the cash now for gas and groceries

I remember when they had some unsold stock during Fun Pub's final blowout sale with the TF license expiring, and Sideswipe kits were like $400 a pop.

Frankly I don’t see that line selling very well. Save for maybe Grimlock, because he’s Grimlock. I mean, I think it’s awesome they’re doing a subline for unreleased G2 concepts. What a time to be a collector ! But it’s a very niche subline. I don’t really see kids begging their parents to pick figures painted in strange early 90’s trendy colors. Even a lot of more casual Transformers fans will probably not understand the reference of those decos and just think they’re weird.

That's how I finally acquired one. I don't think I paid that price but I could be wrong. I know several items received multiple markdowns. Now...I just have this expensive, unbuilt kit that I'll likely never build because Hasbro finally gave us one. I'll likely never sell it either because Botcon OCD. Sigh.

Mark my words, the only big movers will be Toxitron, Grimlock, and the Stunticons. And this is coming from someone who loves the idea of this line.

Yeah I think it eventually hit like $250 before they sold totally out. They did a thing where discounts would add up over each day but you had to gauge when the best time to buy would be since others had their eyes on stuff too.

I wanted to get Sideswipe but of course they sold out as I was confident people wouldn't be crazy enough to pay $200 for a Deluxe.

    I was wrong
