Well, Hasbro traditionally has looked at ALL sources for inspiration, from Google image search to unreleased toy decos. There was a G2 striped Grimlock redeco in one of their construction lines.

IMHO, it's only with WFC that they've had an eye on collector-minded consistency and with WFC and Legacy that they've shown any concern with identifying where characters come from or go on your shelf.

Prior to this, they generally left that up to Funpub and comics licensees. And boy did Funpub ever go wild with that! Particularly with assigning Universe decos. Which was funny because much like Legacy, Universe 1.0 specifically said on the boxes that characters were pulled from different universes but they never said which ones. Part of the reason I have no trouble accepting Toxitron as G2 is because only licensees ever tried to say what universe he was from to begin with.

The only G2 homages I can remember being identified as G2 from Hasbro prior to that were the Combiner Wars boxed sets. I'm not even sure if the FoC Combaticons were labeled.

NOW, they're kindof, sortof making an effort at official classifications. Except when they forget to.

 

It’s a shame that Jazz isn’t the one that’s going to be shortpacked, as of all the wild cancelled G2 decos, he’s the one I hear the least about people wanting. While I personally aren’t really interested in any of them (aside from maybe Sideswipe if he has the cool tampos), it’d be nice if the quantities matched the demand.

 

You were fine (certainly much better than the guy who accused me of being obtuse). And I wasn't really looking to get into an argument so much as suggest my opinion that, I knew when I said it, went contrary to the popular one.

I would certainly concede that, if Hasbro called it G2, the Ultimate Gift Set Jazz would be G2, if retroactively so. I'm less "against" it being called "G2-inspired" or an "homage," although I do consider that (as I said) a stretch. It's really a very nice deco, and it's a toy I'm glad to have. I just question the classification. I've never really seen it justified, and being a somewhat pastel color scheme simply isn't enough for me to claim that particular homage as opposed to it just being a nice alternative Jazz deco.

Hopefully, with my opinion now thoroughly explained and hashed to death, we can move on. Even if we stipulate the classification of "G2 homage" for the sake of argument, this toy's not really relevant to the Walmart capsule, as it's not really an "unreleased G2 deco" in the sense that Sunstorm-cosplay Jazz is.

 

Jazz has sold out on Pulse.

 

I hope it's Shadowstrip. There are a bunch on shelves near me and I don't think he's selling for a lot online anyway, is he?

Suffice it to say, this is perhaps the most complete homage, ever.

 

I said people want him least, not that people don't want him. He’s still got a cool and unique deco, but it’s not quite a lemon sunset or a watermelon crocodile.

About $45. So even if he is shortpacked again, that will still be twice he has been released, so that should hopefully put enough out there keep prices decent… So I agree, Shadowstrip has been released before, so he should be the shortpacked one.


As for Dead End though, IDK. Thats going to be the one everyone wants so they can complete G2 Menasor. But at the sime time I do not want Watermelon Mirage or Vaporwave Sideswipe to become super hard to obtain.

Oh wow what a great day 2 addition.

 

Huh. I literally checked about 10 minutes ago and he was sold but, but sure enough I opened back up the Pulse app and refreshed it and, yep, they are back in stock.

 

Looks like Pulse put up new batches of all the Collector Con stuff from yesterday, including the two G.I. Joes.

Just got a notification from Pulse about some "gold" with a rainbow emoji. Didn't take me anywhere. Gonna keep my eyes open.
