Its actually not. Its a new deco, different from both the Hasbro and Takara decos, with the Takara heads.

Id assume the headmaster gimmick was not IDW accurate. I guess the just put it in bevause it would have caused an uproar if his first update in 30 years wasnt a headmaster.

 

Oh. I bought all the Transformers episodes recorded on VHS through the tf alt.toys group. I believe that was my very first internet purchase, like around '96. At that time the seller didn't even know how to ship overseas, so it was a new experience for both of us (#memoriesoftheweb).

 

I remember the old days back when aside from a few official VHS releases, the only way to view the whole series was through bootleg VHS copies. I had a bootleg set of the entire Sunbow run and the English Omni dub (back when we called it the Star TV dub) of Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory. Then some dude took the video from the Headmasters laser discs and synced the audio from the VHS bootlegs of the "Star TV" dub of Headmasters and mastered them as VCD's. That was the best bootleg set ever.

I don't read IDW so I had no idea he wasn't a Headmaster in their comics.

 

Man, you guys are taking me back to those halcyon days! My first 'net purchase, also in '96, was the Canadian release of TF:TM so I could finally hear those swear words!

I'm gonna have to dig out those old Star dubs...they were so bad they were good!

 

I dont read comics either. But apparantly in IDW they decided not to roll with the headmaster concept. Perhaps they thought of it more of a toy gimmick than a necessity in the fiction. Brainstorm walked around with a briefcase and Chromedome and Rewind were lovers. Weird stuff.

 

Yep, and someone got Zone copied as well. I remember the HM and Zone episodes having the best video quality.

punch/counter huh? Guess they needed a spot to fill with only three Decepticon masters but would have been interesting to create new artwork for an Arcee headmaster

 

my roomates and I in college, .ca 1997 or 1998 bought a VHS set on eBay I think, then dubbed 6 copies. Mine was a copy of a copy   oops. Thankfully, Tubi.tv has all of g1 now.

 

Was hoping for that legends color scheme for the reissue...

 

I'm probably gonna end up just picking up Brainstorm and Hardhead. I want Chromedome, but I already have him, so I'm not really itching on buying a duplicate just for a nicer deco.

Thing is I like the TR Headmasters, but not quite enough to buy them again. If there were mould tweaks and improvements maybe, but aside from the Autobots I didn't find the heads so different that I need the Japanese retools.

EDIT: I'm also glad they put Brainstorm's tampos on the right wings this time.

 

The new one has more paint apps looks like a mixture of both.

 

Wonder if they'll improve the Weirdwolf QC issues for a potential Wave 2 release. I picked up my Legends Weirdwolf tonight and was sad to see that the plastic hinges in the back have crumbled away (as so many people's have). A bummer that it happened to the Legends version and not the cheaper Hasbro version, but whatever.

So I might be in for an improved Weirdwolf (assuming that hinge is even fixable and not just an inherent design flaw).
