Ugh. Ikea must be completely sold out of the Billy's I want, because the website won't let me order them. Now I gotta figure up a new design for my display.

Well I'm picking up more Walmart bookcases later today. I really didn't wanna buy them from Walmart but Ikea would not sell me any Billy's and I couldn't find anything other options that looked similar.

Anyway, I'm going to be extremely careful with these. Once I set them up the way I want, they won't be moved. Ever. Hopefully that will keep them from deteriorating like the last ones did.

Why won't they sell you book cases?

Every time I tried to buy a Billy from Ikea, it basically told me they had none. And I tried to buy a few different sizes.

As for Walmart, I ordered bookcases for in store pick up, but this Walmart was sold out. So instead of giving me the option to have them shipped from a warehouse, they just canceled my order.

The Billy's will just have to come at a later time I suppose.

I might be getting lucky with the local Target though. I was able to order two 71" white bookcases and one 35" (or something close to that) case for pick-up tomorrow. Hopefully they don't cancel on me like the Walmart ones did. I'm going on 3rd shift tomorrow night so if they come in early enough, I'll probably try to get them built and start putting some figures up tomorrow while my girlfriend is at work.

And even though I had no luck ordering Billy's from Ikea, I did successfully order an Linnmon computer desk which should, (and I can't stress the word should enough) be here a week from tomorrow, which would be dope. And if I'm lucky, I might get to start on getting this ugly ass carpet replaced come January.

Y'all tired of seeing my updates yet?

If you answered "yes" to that question, you probably shouldn't be subbed to this thread.

    Anywho.

Target came through with the bookcases. They're just a little bit narrower than the Walmart ones I was using so getting all the figures up there might be a challenge. The biggest challenge I think will be the Titans. I'll spend some more time on it later tonight.

    I'm slowly making progress.

I don't think getting every figure on these shelves will be possible. They're a but narrower than my last ones. So I'm trying to stick with putting only the '84-'87 characters up first. And for the first time, I'm trying to organize the shelves by season. Though I'm not sure how well thats gonna work out in the end.

The top two Autobot shelves are S1 + Sky Lynx. Then under that is my Movie shelf, then S2 and the bottom will be for S3 (even though I don't think I have enough S3 bots to fill it out.

The deception side will be similar. Then the small middle bookcase can be used for IDW/JG1 characters.

I may start a more IDW themed shelves on my old bookcases next to my computer desk to save some space as well.

Well, I'm finally done (for now)!
    20201204_093038.jpg 20201204_093054.jpg 20201204_093111.jpg 20201204_093128.jpg

I started organizing shelves by seasons but once I start hitting S3 things just start getting kinda random. And as I though, I couldn't fit all figures on the white bookcases so I picked out a few to go on the black ones.

My Ikea computer desk should be here Monday so I'll work on that next week.

As for the room itself, I'm still hoping to begin renovations after the 1st of the year. The carpet has to go first, which means I'm literally going to have to tear down my collection again, lol. But the door with the glass window on it leads to a sunroom that the previous owner had built on to the house, I should be able (with help from the girlfriend) tilt the shelves back with the figures still on them and put them in the sunroom until we're done with the floor and painting. Yea, the figures will definitely fall over but honestly that's better than having to take them all down and put them all back up a day later. Why did I put them up already if I knew I would have to take them back down? Because I'm dumb and impatient.

As for the display, I'd still like to get another book case. At first I was thinking of trying to get one more small one, and putting those on the outsides of the tall ones (and have the tall ones together). But now I'm thinking it might make more since to replace the short one with another tall one if I can. That way I can focus on putting Cons on one side, Bots on the other and all of the non-American G1 figures I have can go on the middle bookcase. That would make organizing the shelves by season easier.

And then all that's left would be to get a wall mounting bracket for my TV and hanging up the rest of my wall art. Then of course I still need to finish upgrading my PC. But if I can still to my budget, I might finally have a game room/nerd cave I can be proud of by the end of 2021.

    **Update to first post**

So yesterday I made a very small yet very significant update to my display room that created a world of difference.
    Collage2020_12_07_09_22_50.png
I replaced the soft white CFL light bulbs with daylight LED's. I still want to replace the fixture itself but for now, this is much better.

And now that I've got better lighting in here, I can finally showcase each shelf. So here's a pic dump:
    20201207_073631_edited.jpg 20201207_073619_edited.jpg 20201207_073553_edited.jpg 20201207_073544_edited.jpg 20201207_073537_edited.jpg 20201207_073527_edited.jpg 20201207_073516_edited.jpg 20201207_073506_edited.jpg 20201207_073454_edited.jpg 20201207_073449_edited.jpg 20201207_073438_edited.jpg 20201207_073430_edited.jpg 20201207_073418_edited.jpg 20201207_073359_edited.jpg 20201207_073348_edited.jpg 20201207_073336_edited.jpg 20201207_073312_edited.jpg
So that's what I'm working with now. For shelf lighting, I think I'm going to pick up some packs of LED puck lights from Walmart over the next few weeks. I prefer LED strips but I'd rather not deal with hiding wires on these shelves. My Ikea desk is scheduled for delivery today 12/7. As long as it get's here before I leave for work, I can have it set up tomorrow morning. Once I get the desk set up, I plan on taking the black bookcases out to the garage and fixing them up. The backboards are in rough shape and will need to be renailed down in some places. And I would like to paint them black to cover up with blemishes and the wood grain look to better match the other shelves in here. I'm still hoping to get started on the room renovations sometime in January (we've got more important renovations to finish downstairs first so it just all depends on how quickly that goes). Then I just gotta get a wall mount for my TV and I'd like to find a cheap but nice couch to put in here and I can call it done I think. Stay tuned if you wanna see the progress.

Just a quick update and showcase of the entire room since I got my Ikea desk put together today.

What do you guys think about these bookcases? My original plan was to just paint them black to cover up the blemishes but now I'm not so sure they should stay black. Maybe they would look better white. What say you? I'm having a hard time deciding. Maybe it will be easier to chose when I get the floor and trim done.

Went to Lowes last night and bought the laminate flooring that's going to go in here. Not sure when we'll install it but it should be sometime within the next 30 days. What I'll probably end up doing is getting the paint first. I'll probably remove all the figures from the bookcases and take the bookcases to the sunroom. Then I'll paint all the trim and walls BEFORE ripping up the carpet. That way I can paint closer to the floor without worrying about getting paint on it. So hopefully before the end of January I'll have the room mostly done.

Something else I kinda wanna mention, I'm moving to a different department at work. To start out my schedule will be the same but my shifts will move up by an hour. But it's highly likely that in a couple months I'll be moving to a job that works and 7-day swing. What that means is I'll only get one weekend off a month, which means less time to work on the room. But it also translates to more pay (about an extra paycheck a month) which means I'll be able to better fund the collection and renovations.

Gotta say I'm getting pretty excited for the future.

    20210221_163443.jpg 20210221_163426.jpg
I finally got started on my nerd cave renovations. We painted the walls last weekend. A light gray with a very subtle blue tint to it. This weekend we are doing the floor install. Once the laminate is in, we'll be sanding down all the trim and the doors so they can be painted white. Then all that's left to be done is bring all the furniture back in and get my collection properly organized and displayed (and get a new light fixture).

Well, I'm sore as fuck, but the new flooring has been installed. I don't have any pictures yet. We literally just finished and are saving the clean up for tomorrow. But it turned out pretty good. The floors give the walls a slightly blue-er tint but I doesn't look bad. If I end up not liking it after a while, I'll repaint.

Once I'm done cleaning up tomorrow, I plan on bringing all the furniture back in so I can decide one where it's all going to go. But I won't be bothering with setting my collection up yet.

This weekend is when we're planning on starting the trim work. Gotta sand the original trim, paint it white, then install quarterround. After that, I can finally get my collection back out and on display.

I'm currently in the process of moving all the bookcases back in and getting them positioned, then I have to set my pc back up. Will have more pictures later.

I actually just remembered I took this. But a couple weeks before I emptied my room, I did a little reorganize.

This is essentially want I'm going for now. I've got to run to the hardware store to get new anchors for the floating shelves before I can continue with anything. But this is the general idea of what I want my display to look like.

So I'm about a week late but my trim has finally been painted.
    20210317_120950.jpg 20210317_120935.jpg
I should be able to spend a couple hours before work tomorrow peeling tape and cleaning up. My stimmy is currently pending in my savings account so once that clears, I'm gonna buy some wood to build a couple floating shelves, buy the new light fixture I picked out and maybe get some shelf lighting for the bookcases. The current plan is to build and paint the floating shelves this weekend so I can put all the furniture back where it belongs, then slowly start filling the shelves out again next week.

Hopefully by next weekend I'll have the renovations done and the room back to normal!

Ok so I'm having issues with building the floating shelf, but I was able to get everything else done.

The quarter round is down and my new light fixture (which I foolishly failed to include in these pictures) is in. Now I just gotta get some sort of floating shelf above the desk, clean off all the furniture and put my collectibles back. Then my room will be finished for a good while.

If I'm feeling adventurous in the future, I may smooth out and paint the ceiling and install some crown molding. But for now, this will do.
