I realize that this is not a novel idea in the least. I merely wish to show my attempt at it. Bold text below is current details.

The G1 Galvatron toy, while impressive and very well articulated for its time, does not do Galvatron justice, due to a few rather obvious visual flaws. First, and most important, is that his colour scheme is wrong. Gray is predominant rather than his proper purple. I happen to have purple spray paint at home, so this was easily corrected. I also have some silver spray paint and masking tape, so as to fine tune certain things such as the cannon holder (instead of making it all silver, I only made the upper section silver. The base was kept purple to blend with his arm).

Another issue with his colour scheme is that his chest squares and kneecaps are silver chrome instead of metallic red. I lack metallic red paint. However, I did have the used sticker sheet from my Encore Ironhide. I cut out the leftover sections of metallic red and used them to colour-correct his chest squares. There wasn't enough for the knees, which due to their shape and detailing will have to wait until I get metallic red paint.

The other particularly glaring problem is the head sculpt. The crown is the wrong shape, and his helmet does not protrude around his cheeks. I altered the shape with Mighty Putty. It's not quite right yet, it needs to be sanded smooth, but it's a vast improvement.

I'm not done yet. Apart from smoothing out the head tweaks and painting the kneecaps, I also need to paint his paldrons in the appropriate grays. His articulation could use some work too, but not too much. I trimmed the black plastic parts in his arms so that he could aim his cannon straight, which was one of my main issues. I need to put red cellophane in his eyes. I also need to get a hold of his actual cannon. The stand-in is an index card that's been glued into a cylinder and spray-painted orange. Finally, he needs a new set of stickers. There's still a ways to go, but he looks much better than before.

Update: Crown tweak: Check. Decided to just stick with the original prongs, minus the back one. The result strikes a balance between Sunbow's inconsistent renderings. Kneecaps painted: Check. Paldrons painted: Check. Red cellophane in eyes: Check. Have fabricated a better stand-in cannon. Have also painted his treads black and their housings dark gray, and re-chromed his collar.

It's a good start... But needs a lot of clean up man. I like where you're going with it though.

Yeah, I agree. I think with some more work and polishing, this will be pretty cool :thumb

Bumped for help. Galvatron's hip ratchets have been loose ever since I re-assembled him after painting. There was one black piece left over that I wasn't able to find the place for. I believed it was part of the joint system for his gunsight, but I'm not so sure now. Does anybody know what's wrong?

And yet, it'll end up better than anything I've ever attempted.

Honestly, I think you wrecked that Galvatron. No amount of sanding is going to fix that. Your only hope is grinding those blobs of putty down with power tools.

Also, I'm not sure what that red stuff is on his chest, but it looks like you took painted paper and taped it or glued it there. Not a good choice.

Wow, good to see useful and constructive advice... oh wait..that's the opposite of that... what a shame.:redface2:

this does remind me of one thing I always thought about though, since he shoots his cannon through his head, its no wonder his circuits always fried.

I do like the color choices =-D

I already re-did the crown mods from scratch, and I might do so again. I was already aware of that issue.

What I asked for was help with fixing the hip joint problem he developed. Could somebody please provide with an underside shot of an unmodified Galvatron's groin so that I can see if there's a difference?

As a starter, it might be worth smoothing the head down a bit more - don't be afraid to take too long to do something. When I've done models/kits in the past I've often been in a rush to get the whole thing finished and upon a later revisit I wished I'd take more time.

It's a good idea though, keep at it.

This x100000. It's not a race, take the time to do it right, using the proper tools and techniques.

As I said, I've already re-done the crown mods. I just haven't put pictures up yet. Does anybody have an underside shot of an unmodified Galvatron's groin?
