All of this has made me happy to have gotten the Classic in the collection before this happened. I was worried it would be hard to find, I just never imagined this would be the reason why.

    Insanity prevails.

They missed the mark on action figures. Playmates should have done, from the beginning, action figures of the pilots, the Princess, and the villains (not all at once, but in waves of 3-5 figures each). Kids like that as they can associate with the characters AND the lions. The other missing link was that Voltron did not have anyone to fight. There should have been at least a couple of robeasts for the metal scale Voltron, and perhaps an evil combiner of some kind, even if there wasn't one in the show. That may have helped give that needed push and keep the line going.

Yeah, same here. Especially Red and Green. The clearancing probably caused enough of a rush, but I could also see people snapping up extra Red and Green Lions at clearance pricing just to get another Blazing Sword and Space Cutter to paint.

I'm glad to see a lot of Classic Voltron Lions on Amazon, sold by Amazon itself, even the Black Lion appeared some days ago.

This is pretty good for people that can only buy online but it is still an enigma what happened in physical stores with all these Voltron sales.

Yeah, I never found anything but blue and yellow lions locally and they're all gone now. Thankfully I was able to pick up the rest on Amazon without too much of an overcharge.

I ordered all three on different days so they would arrive at different times, then opened the boxes to show my daughter at different times to built up anticipation (even though at that point I already had them all.) When I opened up the final lion and formed Voltron my daughter went nuts. She was carrying it around going "Mommy Mommy look what we have!!!"

Playmates has been answering emails from people in the Voltron Collectors Facebook group.

Saw the diecast set for $21 at target. That was my threshold ($25 and under).

I like it more than the larger version I think. The lack of the smaller paint details is more forgivable. Shame the head still doesn’t move.

I wish they had made a smaller classic version as well (with above the elbow swivels).

Well that answered the enigma about the many classic lions available on Amazon.

I'm still waiting for the green and black lion. Voltron will be assembled soon very soon!

Okay, that answers a couple of questions at least. Good to know the line is not planned to die...but that last sentence about the changing toy industry indicates they are on the verge of changing their minds.

The ultimate determinant is are the merchants purchasing the line. Playmates may not be officially cancelling it, but if a Walmart and Target don’t order more and clearance out whatever they have left it’s done.

Exactly. But like I said, it's nice to know that Playmates had plans to continue, either way. The interesting thing is that the stuff at Toy Fair was probably already in production...so it'll be interesting to see where the merch ends up if Walmart and Target give it the cold shoulder this holiday season...

Yeah, ultimately it's the brick and mortar retailers that end up calling the shots. This feels sort of like what happened with the 2002 MOTU reboot. Mattel botched that HARD by slanting their cases heavily in favor of He-Man and Skeletor figs, because they stupidly thought that was all kids wanted. Every other character was pretty much a chase fig. But of course, by the time Mattel pulled it's head out of it's ass and fixed the problem with the MOTU vs The Snakemen re-branding, it was too late. The retailers tapped out and refused to order any more product, and Mattel cancelled the line, the show, the comics, all of it.

Not quite the same situation here, but it just goes to show how much control retailers have.

Didn't Diamond take over the Transformers Toys R Us exclusives? Good for them jumping in and making a play for those and this.

Welp, if that's not a final nail in a coffin I don't know what is. I rather liked that deco so i'm glad it actually managed to get a release somehow.
