my local TRU express (that's all I have here) only got the red and blue LD lions...I wish I got all the lions when I saw them. I am regretting that I didn't. I just need the green and yellow to finish off my LD Voltron.

Was Voltron actually solicited domestically? Every "distributor" that I saw offering them was very obviously importing from Japanese retail...

All of this talk about other Voltrons is nice and I'm happy folks have options, but I'm definitely in a loving, monogamous relationship with my SoC.

My only gripe is the sword...it's too damn long! I'd really like a 20-30% smaller blade, so I could pull off a one or-two handed "blade-down" pose, like the EX is doing here.

Thinking of selling my LD combining set.
It's all still sealed and the black lion is wrapped around the outer box as well (collector grade from bbts). I even have the boxes they came in that have the voltron logo on the outside which is cool.

Am I crazy? Someone talk me out or into it. I'm thinking the die cast versions will be a better fit for my collection.

If I do sell I'll do it for what I paid through bbts (140.47 shipped).

    Thoughts?

Some think I'm overwhelmingly pessimistic but I have a feeling that the diecast LD Voltron will merely be(for the most part) a shrunken down diecast version of the larger LD Voltron without the right tolerances. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe keep your set until reviews of the diecast one are out?

That's a good plan. I was planning to do the same, but I'm rearranging my display cabinet right now so I thought I would throw it out there.

Originally I wanted a die cast version and smaller too just like they announced later. Honestly I didn't think we would get more Voltron toys.

We know the Die-cast version will just be a shrunk down version of the Legendary lions, we've seen it.

Only difference is the Black Lion/Voltron may have head articulation. I wouldn't expect any tolerance differences given it's design.

I mainly concerned about size as these will remain in the box unless they provide a collectors style so we can remove them as needed.

Yeah, unfortunately we don't know enough about the die-cast version to make that call. :(

Very much so. Bluefin actually had them same day as or near the Japanese release. The Western Bluefin version has the English Language "Voltron" slipcover over the box. The Regular Japanese is the Standard SOC box with GoLion.

Well, it looks like there's no spring loaded jaws on the limb lions, and there's no opening hatches on their undersides since there's no speeders.

Like, I'm sure they aren't new CAD models or anything, but there seems to be SOME changes from the Legendary lions.

What worries me a bit is each Die Cast Lion is being sold separately as a Die Cast piece. This means they are more than likely mainly engineered individually and will probably be a bit overweighted or unbalanced in robot form. Things like Arms a bit to heavy for joints, etc. this really is Playmates first major foray into this sort of thing, isn't it?

But as far as the proportions, accuracy, and joint design (namely the shoulder connectors) are concerned it's virtually identical.

I only hope the connectors on the shoulders are easier to pull free.

I don't think that's the case. Just because they're sold separately doesn't mean they weren't designed together. It's not like they told a group of people "okay, you guys work on black, you're on red, etc". I'm sure they were designed as a unit.

Indeed, their gimmick is to combine. They'd have to disregard the very purpose of the toy. I mean, aesthetics wise it favours the lions, but the actual combination of the large one is just fine. The die as version may be a bit less playable, but at that size I can't see things going too wrong.
