Just something for anyone in the US or Canada seeking to buy one of these things to keep in mind. It possibly carries a bit more risk than normal. Icarus Toys did something very very stupid. Aside from repeatedly telling everybody they have a license ( they don't I actually asked WEP.) They went further and cut and pasted the WEP Registered Trademark info from the GX-71 onto their packaging. This means it's not simply the normal bootleg vs third party issue of essentially unenforceable Copyright and having to prove points of similarity to your IP. The KOB people fraudulently put WEP's Trademark info on the box. It's considered Trademark infringement and counterfeit goods. Customs can and quite possibly might seize and destroy it leaving you with no recourse. There is no C&D actions. No court proceedings. WEP just has to file an affidavit with customs stating that the product is fraudulently bearing their trademark in order to put it on a customs watch list. This is likely why BBTS pulled their listings. As an importer they don't want to be having paid for goods seized at customs while they have no ability to get their money back from the third party HK manufacturer. So Caveat Emptor. I'm not saying don't get one if you like the robot. Just saying be aware of the purchasing risks. (Does anyone know what Paypals policy is in a situation like customs seizure?) At a minimum do not pre pay, and even worse do not let your pre order go beyond the no questions asked return period on your credit card or pay pal. This one is flying without a net.
It is not like I was complaining like a complete ignoramus. I did say "I'll probably not worry about it, because the paint seems to match perfectly". I originally was asking a question in an earlier comment on whether I should worry about it or not, being that this will quickly become a high valued item (prices are already hitting around the $500 area). Then someone replied that "on noos, you painted it" so my second post was to say that the paint I used is an easy to remove type, to clarify, and that it would still be very easy to return to BBTS if I decided to do so. SOME DO SAY that flaws on figures ruin the value, while others say its not a big issue. I have mod/fixed all but one of my flawed figures that I have ever purchased online, which is more than can be said about the hundreds of others that return for replacements. I didn't say I expect 100% perfection from everyone. It was just disappointing that I seem to be, so far, 1 of 2 people that have suffered with this type of paint issues on the SOC Voltron. I "was" (no longer so) just curious as to whether others would return it or keep it.
Correct, just use the handle of a plastic knife, fork, or spoon. Preferable the cheaper soft plastic ones you get from a fast food restaurant. Soft plastics are better to use than hard plastic or metal object such as coins. Less prone to scratching your figures. Funny, it was the left shoulder on my as well
Nice collection, will you be adding an ultimate edition or an original to that? Want a 1997 die-cast tread master voltron, complete with box, weapons and instructions?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ultimate EX Voltron does not come with the Key... I know that the 30th anniversary one does though. I will be doing a pictorial comparison between Ultimate EX Voltron and SOC Voltron this weekend posting it here. Lions and Combined form.
I believe I am having issues with my left shoulder locking as well. I will have to verify that when I get home later tonight.
For Toynami Ex, I have a problem with the Green Lion, specifically with the front legs. The middle part (Round screw looking piece) is supposed to stay put and not rotate while you move the legs forward and back. Mine does so it ends up feeling loose. It's actually still okay, but it bothers me a little bit. I tried t open it up but the pieces seems to glued. Apart from that, everything is fine. FYI, I had the chance to choose between 2 sets when I got it. The first one I opened for inspection had some ugly paint smudge on the thighs
You can compare the red and green lion main leg joint. The line on the leg of red lion goes down straight while the green one is slanted.
Sorry, I should have clarified, I was rushing earlier and thought that that post would have sufficed. What I meant to say is, "this weekend, (during my comparison that I mentioned I would be doing in a post last week) I will also be doing a complete pictorial review of both figures, showing any QC issues, flaws, or common errors involved with both of these figures. Not only a comparison but also reviewing any problems or concerns people may have. Instead of doing double the work and putting a list together, that may be followed up with "where was that?" "What piece was that?", "I don't get it." "It still not fitting" etc. etc.....). I will cover the issues and take photos showing the part I am discussing and post it here. I will take photos of the individual lions, use MS paint and circle common area of concerns and information left out of the instructions (such as the somewhat hidden double knee and double elbow joints of the Ultimate EX voltron, that just about every video review overlooks and then complains about possibility issues, I mean people actually started sanding the joints to get more possibility because they were unaware of the built in joints). So yes, I will also be providing a list of issues and non-issues this weekend." Oh, and to add to what len_d69 was saying, yes, the red and green are glued together.... making it difficult to open up and fool around with the figures if required. The other ones will come apart pretty easily with a screw driver (have not notice any stripping of the screw holes when taking apart - I like to take things apart...)
Thanks @len_d69 ... so overall it seems like it should be fairly solid piece minus a few duds out there. Appreciate the clarification. A lot of times when people do comparisons it's more of a comparison of what's better between the two than an in-depth rundown of either so I'm really looking forward to the in-depth view. Thanks in advance. I love the SoC but the look of the EX is really winning me over. Nothing was said in a brusque manner.
I don't know where the lack of understanding how the conversation is going from but I asked for something very specific and he responded to me with him doing something which on surface would not be what I asked for. So yes, I re clarified what I'd originally asked. There's nothing rude or abrupt about that.
From the dozen or so reviews I have seen on YouTube, I was surprised and disappointed that I would be the one who got a unit that had a defect. Nowhere have I seen had what I had. And honestly, you are the first to have a similar issue that had. So even though there is a risk of getting a worse-off copy (that did worry me until I got the replacement and looked it over carefully), the chances appear to be very slim in my honest and humble opinion. And I admit that the OCD in me wants perfection in something that exceeds $300 as its purchase price. At the same time, I understand and accept that nothing is 100% perfect. The first one was (to me) about 95% perfect. The replacement I have now is 99.999% perfect. That will do. I may have been able to paint over the flaws as well, but I lack the confidence and experience to try it. Although I have an art degree, I have never tried to touch up an existing finished product like the SOC Voltron. From what it sounds like, you did a great job in fixing your Voltron. And if you are happy with your results, then I give you two thumbs way up. That's awesome. What matter's is if you are happy. For me, SOC Voltron is so far my 2017 Toy of the year. It will be hard to top it, personally.
Everyone on earth except me, Sportimus and eventually some guy named Mattress... other than those guys, everyone else will has a flawless SOC Voltron o.0
