Hmmm problems...(Looks at his Voltron) problems problems problems....shit man, I don't see any problems besides the lack of a waist joint- that's pretty much it. Everything else works pretty nicely- especially once you mod the neck and hips for better articulation. I think you should still invest in one- he's a pretty cool display piece.
Honestly? I'm buying the Legendary lions mostly for the lions. The chunky combination is just a bonus.
Should have just bought it locally. BBTS is taking forever on shipping my PoL (Voltron and Fansproject Dai Z)
Did you email them? They took forever to ship my EX. It was in their warehouse for four days and I emailed and inquired about it and magically it was shipped the same day. They never wrote be back, but maybe it was a coincidence? Although they shipped my legendary defender lions out pretty fast. They usually respond to my emails and always pack my items up very securely. Maybe they are very busy?
Mine finally shipped on Friday afternoon after being "warehouse" all week and having to email. It won't get here until the end of the week...but I live 20 mins from where Robogeek does and apparently could have just bought it locally - earlier.
Forget the Ultimate one, this one is WAY more posable than I thought. Knees bent, and arms forward and he has no issues. You just adjust the front legs of the yellow and blue lion to suit. I have a lot of Megazords and this is one of the largest with the most posibility.
He def looks cool! I have him, but chose to keep them in their spectacular packaging. Also my soc voltron is supposed to be in at bbts so I'm pretty pumped about that too.
Ya mine is supposed to be delivered this Thursday. I can't but the EX anywhere except bbts (they're the only ones that have it in stock) unless I want to eBay but I don't trust them.
Ehh, the lack of neck swivel and waist swivel combined with missing paint apps were enough to deter me yesterday although I did almost leave with them. If Playmates do make a boxset with better paint apps though, I'll probably break down and get it.
I have the EX. I thought about doing that. It might help. Im off the next few days and Im going to try it. If it helps I will be doing another youtube video on it.
When it comes to the show, my opinion is this: I think it focuses too much on the pilots and not enough on Voltron himself. It's like we see the pilots fighting more than we do Voltron, and that, to me, makes the title of the show semi-invalid- because the show's called Voltron Legendary Defender, not Voltron Force. If we wanted to see more of the pilots then Voltron Force would be a fitting name, because frankly I think the pilots make up more of the show than the lions do- but they call it Voltron Legendary Defender and personally I still don't think we've seen enough of him- it doesn't exactly match or justify the title IMO. I personally don't give a shit about the pilots, that wasn't the reason I ever watched the original show or any other series since- so now that they're focusing more on the pilots than Voltron: I'm not disappointed, I'm just not satisfied so far- I want more Voltron- much more. "Well they deliberately made it this way so we COULD see more of the pilots- that's the whole point of the show." Well...I think they made a bad judgment call then. I'm not saying it's a bad show, nor am I saying it isn't action-based, nor am I saying it hasn't entertained me- I'm simply saying I haven't seen enough of Voltron- when it comes to seeing Voltron in action: I'm not satisfied. That's all. I hope season 2 gives us that. The toys are fantastic, but I think because of how the show is being run, the toys are limited in accessories and other features or gimmicks previous Voltrons had. If they focused more on Voltron himself and gave him more screen time, they could show more of his weaponry and include that in their toyline = more interesting toyline (not that it isn't interesting already, it would just make it better if there were more weapons included with the products)- they'd probably sell faster and better than they already are.
To be fair that's how it was in the original toon and the others too. Almost every episode was plotting to attack voltron, showing the voltron force doing their own thing, a quick battle in the lions, and a quick battle as voltron. There were a few exceptions in the original toon one of which the episode called lotors new hitman episode 37 of season 1 had a hot shot pilot flying a new fast maneuverable robeast where voltron was used 3 times in that episode and he was outmaneuvered every time but the last. It was only after the 3rd time forming voltron they were able to defeat him using the lion head attack.
Voltron's not a character though, it's just a robot. The show's creators said they would deliberately hold Voltron back from being over-exposed so that when he did show up, it meant business. They didn't want him to just become a thing of habit to be taken for granted, they wanted the audience to anticipate Voltron on more than a superficial level you describe. Just because the show is called Voltron, doesn't mean we should be seeing every second of it devoted to him. I mean, he's not even a him, he's an it. The lions are semi-sentient, but Voltron is literally just a robot at this point. The show is still about Voltron, but the pilots are the human characters who actually do stuff. It's the same thing with Gundam. Yeah the show is called Gundam, but the Gundam is just a robot, it's the pilot and other people who are the main source of drama. That's what happens when you aim to make a more mature (as in actual maturity, not "dark and gritty" or whatever) series about giant robots. It becomes less about the robots and more about the people, because that's what good storytelling is. It probably doesn't help that "season one" and "season two" are rather obviously just two halves of one season, split up by Netflix, so the inexperienced early days of the pilots dominate the first half naturally.
(Slides a beer across the table to each of you) I completely understand what you guys are saying...but I'm just in it for the robots. lol
I keep telling myself that I'm going to wait for a deal before picking them all up, but I know as soon as I see them in person I'll cave and buy them on the spot.
Actually forming Voltron is my least favorite aspect of the new series, aside from the music. It just seems so cheesy and hokey juxtaposed against the rest of the show, which is character-driven and sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy. I prefer the teamwork of the individual lions with their respective pilots. In particular, the lion action sequences are more visually interesting than the Voltron sequences by an order of magnitude. I wholeheartedly agree with their decision to keep Voltron to a minimum and not form him in every episode in a formulaic fashion, like the original series.
I like the forming Voltron, though considering it's homage to super robot combinations like GaoGaiGar I feel it lacks punch. But honestly? Voltron is cool to me because of his significance in the story. A giant robot without a story is a pretty boring thing. (that's my Lucas impression) I can't in all honesty say that I'd even like this Voltron design that much if I didn't have attachment to it. I think my initial reactions to the design were lukewarm, (And I still kinda wish it wasn't so cheaty and wasn't quite so... clean?) but I grew to like it because of the show.
