Its very odd the current design does have a shape on the chest where the royal crest should be with no detail to it and wondered if something like that might happen. I plan on just adding it to the existing figure myself when I get it. If a new design does happen I might get that too if its significant enough. Besides if that is a plan of the series plans change and the series could end before it happens or soon after taking the updated design with it before it ever sees toy form. Then again if the series continues the toy line could flop and be cancelled before an updated design is released.
So that's what bugs me. It's the lack of panel lining that makes these just look like big colored blocks. I couldn't put my finger on it before but that's exactly it.
Could they be better? Of course. But considering they were $25 a piece (I paid $125; $23 each if you do it by retail at $115) it's pretty good. Compare that to EX and you're paying $80 per figure at $400 or $60 a figure for the SOC at $300. You have to remember this toy is targeted towards kids and nostalgic fans not hard core collectors although mine will remain in their beautiful packaging. How much are you willing to pay to get a more accurate and detailed figure? I'm all for quality vs quantity and I am willing to pay more for a higher end figure. I have the EX coming and the SOC on preorder. I think if playmates made a higher end figure it would cost more and then we would get more complaints about that. Playmates did a good job balancing by offering the kiddies the cheaper versions for $10 and those that want to spend more could have a better product. I'm not trying to sound rude I'm just really interested in what you think playmates could have charged to get a higher quality product to the masses?
Went on a hunt for the Legendary guys and it was a big nada. I see Amazon is sold out too, while everyone else has a hefty markup. Hope this is a good sign for the success of the show and future re-stock.
Not sure where you are in the world, but I picked mine up at bbts and they are still in stock. Slightly marked up but it's an option vs not having anything.
Someone asked about the Voltron Legendary Defender combiner head to be painted. I added red paint to the top portion of the head. I also painted the wing thrusters silver. Enjoy
If you check a few pages back, I posted a picture of me already having both the LD and SoC together, so I was already sold on this figure as-is. I was merely stating the fact that out of the box, this figure doesn't look like it's worth $125, to me, at least. It took me seeing the pic I quoted, to make me realize that including some black paneling is what would help break up all the solid colors these lions come in. Again, just my preference. Would it have been nice for Playmates to do that, sure. But it is what it is and I'm just doing my part to help keep new Voltrom toys coming.
I agree. Plus.. we're not asking for them to fill the thing with gold.. we just want the figure to be better because it has a lot of potential. Improve the proportions here and there, use a different articulation method, a quick wash, and viola.. much better. Those things aren't going to add $200 in tooling and molding. If Takara could give us a solid devastator at a reasonable price, I'd like to think playmates could've made those improvements with little to no increase in price. (The wash would probably bump it up a little, but reducing arm mass and different shoulder joints probably wouldn't add to the price tag). Anyways, what stores are people finding the limbs? I'd like to get my hands on this to see if my criticisms hold up when handling it.
BBTS has theirs for about $3 more a limb. I will pay that before having to waste gas money and hunt them down. BBTs is much cheaper in the end.
Saw 4 SoC Voltron boxes at my local Bic Camera earlier today (priced at around 28,000 yen). Looks great from the heft and pictures on the package. Glad I got it for cheaper on HLJ though.
No doubt it would have looked way better. We all love voltron and want to support it so it goes on for a long time and we get better toys. Hopefully when they do their revisions they will make the changes we all want
Now I know how big he'll be! I mean, I knew the measurements, but seeing it next to something I own offers a different kind of context.
