So I was watching somebody's playthrough of WFC, and I was thinking, the decepticon voice acting seems kind of poor. They growl everything, like they're makinga point of being evil-y. Or is this just my imagination? Bear in mind I haven't seen any Autobot sections. What do you think?
The voice acting is a bit generic for the Decepticons in both games other then a few major characters. The Autobots had the better voice actors in both games for sure.
Who voiced Megatron? I was dissapointed by his voice, especially as a main character it should be distinct, his voice was just as bad as Starscream's, in terms of growling out everything he said.
Fred Tatasciore (pronounced: "tata-shore") played Megatron, in the games, along with Ratchet, Trypticon, Omega Supreme and Metroplex. Tatasciore also played Grindor in the RotF games, and is VERY well-known for playing many of the animated versions of the Hulk in most recent years. While I liked his Megatron voice, I entirely understand how others wouldn't be fans. I see Megatron either being one of two types of identities 1) an intelligent blood-thirsty barbarian who loves to ragekill, or B) an intelligent, relatively collect, calculating warlord who strikes with optimum efficiency, and pain. For 1, Tatasciore works very well, but for 2, David Kaye rules. EDIT: On Starscream, I couldn't disagree more, I honestly believe he's one of the better Starscream voices we've ever had.
I forgot who voices Megatron and I couldn't agree more... He had a great personality but the voice was extremely generic. But I think they went with this guy because of Frank's performances in ROTF game not knowing that he would prove himself a year later in Transformers Prime that he still has what it takes to be one of the best Megatron voices around. Starscream I think is one of the best voices in both games. Personality out of all the main cons, I believe Shockwave had the worst voice of them all. He sounded like Victor Caroli... You know, Steve Blum is a great voice actor but dam it... Couldn't he think of something more original instead of what he did in the first video game or just say no to the role.
I agree with Shockwave, and never quite realized how much of Caroli it was, despite it being the EXACT same voice for the Narrator in WFC. I don't blame Blum though, he's just the actor, the voice director tells him what to do, and how. There's no reason, ever, for a voice actor to turn down a role due to the voicing, they are an item, a prop, a tool (absolutely NOT in the derogatory sense). A live actor has a different challenge because their physical performance absolutely affects their image and potential future castings; voice actors are in an EXTREMELY good spot where it doesn't matter at all how they look, or move, as long as their voices are on the spot (which includes inflections, tone, volume, a lack of physical disruptions like tumors). If anything, deliberations concerning Shockwave's voice should've been more thorough, calculated, and specific.
Yeah, voice acting isn't one of the game's strong points. Breakdown, Onslaught, Shockwave and maybe Starscream are the only Decepticons who don't sound like thugs or monsters. But that is better than Bay's movies where there's only monster, no thug and only Scream and Beak sounded different from that and they sounded the same as each other.
Are you sure? I thought it was "Tuh-tas-cee-or." Anyway, I only like a few voices in the game. I liked Nolan North as Cliffjumper a lot more than I expected, which is pretty good, actually. I think this is due in part to HMS redoing it with Nolan and Troy voicing their parts live in the same booth--kudos. Moreover, Troy Baker's Jazz was off the hook! I think Troy raise the bar significantly and in so doing, made both characters great. Sideswipe, as little his role was, was also quite likeable for me. And I really like this Iron Hide. He still sounds like a cow boy, albeit a little younger, but still a Southerner Starscream VA tries too hard and as a result is too over the top. I wish the VA director had him turn it down a notch, though I don't think it is solely his/her fault, but also Starscream's portrayal and weak story--why was it necessary to force his betrayal? Steve Blum's Shockwave was way off the mark Why did they go with Steve? The guys a great VA, but he's only got one voice, and I think that played a huge part in why I didn't like his take on Shockwave. Another reason has to do with how different it is from the original, which I'm sure I'm not the only one wanted to hear--very disappointing after hearing Corey Burton voice the character two years ago in a Gamestop commercial too. All other voice did sound a bit generic, which I guess is on par with the original cartoon Still, I wish other VA put as much effort into their roles as those mentioned up top. It also would have been nice if HMS had the funds to get a bigger pool of VAs. Let's face it, they only had a handful of folks.
I personally liked most if not all of the voices used for characters. I really enjoyed Shockwave's voice I thought it was emotionless and logical just like he should be. The only character's voice I may have not been too thrilled with is Swinde. I think Steve Blum just played too many people for one game.
If Steve didn't sound like Steve every time he spoke, I don't think we would have had issues with the guy. Mel Blanc and Frank Welker did pretty well, you know
The voice acting is definitely the weak point of these games. There are some times when I can't at all tell who's talking (i.e. Sludge's memory, Grimlock confronting the Leapers), and most of them have the same feel as each other. The custom characters' alternate voice options are an absolute joke; I have no clue how you could ever tell the difference between them, much less decide one was superior.
Oh that's easy with Sludge's audio log it goes: Grimlock Slag/Slug Grimlock Swoop Grimlock listen to it again and you'll see, yes I agree with you for cc voices, if only we could choose tone, accent and personality of the voice (medium voiced, witty british guy for me).
To the Megatron debate, personally Tatasciore is the best Megatron yet. I just love how he fits the doom-bringing, cold, evil overlord feel, without going overboard. It just fits.
Fred Tatasciore, Steve Blum, Nolan North, Troy Baker and Travis Willingham were all overcasted in this game. They played like three character each. Don't get me wrong I like them all they are all talented people but really....we couldn't have thought of some other people for this game?
I thought Greg Berger did Bruticus? (He wasn't impersonating Michael Dorn, you bad 90's cartoon fanboy)
