This seems to be the big year for VR. You got the Rift, HTC Vive, PS VR, etc.

I've seen a clip of the HTC Vive and that thing looks amazing with what you can do. Especially if you're an artist because of that that Tilt Brush painting app.

I bought an Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and I'm currently waiting for my Gear VR. I tried the VR for a few secs and I liked it, I didn't want to get too into it. I just wanted a taste of the experience.

Your thoughts on VR gaming or just VR in general?

I'm excited about the possibilities of VR, but I never dive in headfirst and buy a new console or application immediately. Partly because I am a college student who has to be careful with my money, but the point still stands that I don't think there will be a lot of worthy launch titles. Plus, it's hard to know what you're getting into because you can't really demo it that well. I will probably get PlayStation VR when there is a price drop or more games I am interested in. Robinson: The Journey is the most intriguing VR game I have seen so far, and I think horror games are going to benefit the most from this experience. So many developers are now trying to emulate PT. Just imagine what that would be like with VR.

Not interested. To me VR is more suitable to First Person Display games and I'm not a fan of that style of gaming so I don't see myself jumping the bandwagon anytime soon.

Plus it's been four months since my eye surgery and it's too soon to ruin them again.

Interested in the prospect and the future of it but we have to remember this first gen stuff is going to look like ps1/n64 games do to us now in 10 years.

I think there is a huge future and potential to it, but what you will see is a lot of experimentation and shovelware for the time being, with no real AAA devs stepping to the plate until the tech is fully fleshed out and they have a better feel of how to make a great game that isn't just a tech demo.

When VR hits its 3rd or 4th gen I'll probably be all about it.

So I decided to buy the Gear VR for my phone cuz I did not want to wait 6-8 weeks to see wether or not I get my free ones. Anyways, I got to spend some time with it and its pretty cool. Some content are better than others. You got your typical flat Google streetview spherical camera videos and then those that are made/recorded in 3D. Showed my family and friends and they all mostly loved it. The ones that didn't got scared.

I know what I see is just what is displayed on the screen, but theres been a few times when objects/people get near you, it feels they're really there for that split second that you were approached.

Its definitely an experience, but I just don't see it replacing the way we play games now .... unless they don't give us that option.

Same here. I first thought, how awesome would racing games be (My Xbox One is strickly Forza Horizon 2 console). But then I thought, I never ever raced in cockpit view. Tried it, and didn't like it. IMO, VR would only work in cockpit view, and while it would be awesome in some regards, I would probably crash at every corner and get too frustrated to enjoy it.

You know there will be. My guess is, that is where this technology will inevitably go.

I own a dk1 rift and it's neat but at times I don't see vr lasting to long.

So I've had my Rift CV1 for a few weeks now. Definitely some improvement to be made going forward with the next generation, but seems to be a very solid product. The games can be taxing on the computer, but it really is a fantastic new experience.

Really digging Lucky's Tale which comes with the Rift. It's like floating over a massive diorama (or maybe a Disneyland ride given the scale) with a remote control fox, and it's really great to be able to lean in and out of the environment. Adr1ft is a sight to behold in VR, but wow it can make you feel motion sick. EVE Valkyrie kinda fills that Battlestar Galacticia itch, but I really would have liked to have a single player experience there; the multiplayer is neat, but somehow lacking. Chronos just recently clicked with me as well, it's kinda like a Resident Evil 1/Souls series hybrid. I'm not sure it is something that could only be done in VR, but it is really cool to be able to look all around the environment, and hear where noise is coming from.

And speaking of the sound in Chronos; I think the most surprising aspect of VR has been how good the sound quality and mixing has been, but nobody seems to be talking about this. It just feels so natural to pick up where sound is coming from, and this aspect alone would likely make VR games feel extremely lacking if ported to 2D.

Oh I wouldn't doubt it. :p  "Boobs so real, it's like groping without the guilt! Or a resulting restraining order!" :lol

Anyway, as far as my feelings go for VR, it might work out, who knows.

I am not sure if the people who are commenting actually tried VR or not. When I was in Rotterdam this week, I was able to try out the HTC Vive at a friends house.

All I have to say is wow, wow and more wow. This is the quantum leap expected and that has not been seen since we went from the SNES to the N64/Playstation 1.

It is really revolutionary, and not in the BS was the PS3 move or Wii was. This is a COMPLETELY new gaming experience, that truely cannot be identified by watching a video.

The first thing that gets you is the sense of scale in the game. No screen can actually show you what this scale is. I tried Into the Blu', which you can see a video of here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFKbL-GU-_U

That whale you see, with the VR headset is actually the size of a whale. It feels like the thing is several hundreds of feet long. Your mind cannot tell the difference. And that is what makes all the difference.

By far the best demo I tried was Waltz of the Wizard. That let's you take the role of a wizard. The controllers act like your hands. What is crazy about it is that you VERY quickly use the controller as an extension of your own hands. I becomes very easy to pick something up, throw it in the sky, and then catch it. It's such a fluid process, it's pretty insane, how quickly you get immersed into the world.

Now I haven't tried the Oculus, and maybe it's too early to judge, but I think for now, the Vive is the clear winner. They already have the controllers, which are very nice and quickly adapt to the actions your doing (hands, guns, etc.). They just feel right.

Then you have the fact that you can walk around in a space. I think this is the main separation point. In Waltz of the Wizard, you literally walk around the wizards room. There is no substitution for this.

What gets me, is how well, just a headset and some sensors work. While playing Space Pilot Trainer, if you duck in real life, the characters ducks in the game. I moved my hips to avoid a shot from the enemy and it translated to the game flawlessly.

The way this is done is pretty insane overall. The 1:1 movement between the real world and in game is perfect. I have never played a V1 of anything this good before.

Just trying it, made me an instant convert.

Having said that, it's still not perfect. They need to be able to solve for the teleport mechanics and how you can walk in a bigger space. Or having a fake walking space of some sort, so you can keep walking. Teleporting just takes you out of the game.

Secondly, you gotta wall mount your TVs. I knocked my friends TV over by mistake. He caught it, but I was in the space, and I hit it. So you gotta keep it clear.

But even with those drawbacks, the Vive is bliss. By FAR the best gaming experience I have ever had. I hope companies learn how to use the tech, because the future is VERY bright.

I've still not seen anything that impresses me with VR, it all looks very gimmicky.

VR is gonna stop feeling gimmicky when people figure out what kinds of games you can actually do on VR and what kinds you can only do on VR.

Because it looks gimmicky on a screen. With the VR headset, it is actually really good.

Having said that, they need a game that really takes advantage of everything, at moment, they are mainly tech demos.

There are a fair amount of real games. It's just that the Rift has much more "real" games than the Vive at the moment. Granted, those games are not using VR to its fullest with motion controls, but they're legitimate games, and I don't think every VR game needs to use motion tracked controllers. Lucky's Tale and Chronos are legitimately great 3rd person games that are enhanced and take advantage of VR (although I think Chronos specifically could have been made in 2d with camera adjustments). There are also a fair amount of "cockpit" type games that are a natural fit for taking full advantage of VR with a gamepad, flight stick, or steering wheel.

So far I think my favorite real VR game has been House of the Dying Sun. It's a badass space combat game that takes heavy cues from Battlestar Galacticia and TIE Fighter.
